minor surgery with RA

Hi Kirsten...I've gone off my biologis whenever I've had any type of

surgery, and have avoided infections. Once I'm past the surgery I go

back on them. I'm currently on Humira and Mtx.

Speaking of which (this is another item I have on my list to discuss with my

doctor).. I am supposed to take humira weekly, but skip it if I get sick with

a cold, etc. Well, I get something everytime I take the shot-- a cold, sinus

infection, bronchitis...so I certainly do not take it as prescribed. Is it a

very common side effect to be so suseptible to viruses, etc?

Kirsten,

It is usually recommended that we quit the biologicals such as Enbrel,

Remicade and Humira before any surgery since these drugs make us more

susceptible to infection. I'm on Enbrel and quit taking it even if I

have a cold.
