The word that springs to mind with all therapies, natural or otherwise, is multifactorial. As Karin points out, what works for one person does not always work for another. Most doctors practise some form of evidence - based medicine and the balance of probabilities is always considered. Our youngest son is a mainstream medical doctor but he is not averse to recommending alternative treatments when he believes it right to do so.

There is a debate in the UK at the moment about alternative medicine and the medical establishment is warning against undue reliance on it. My son believes that this attack is because many doctors believe that much of alternative medicine does work and they are worried that money spent on it may divert funds from the NHS!
