Guest guest
Yikes, clear nail polish on shingles? LOL Sounds dangerous! Also, never heard of a doc giving antibiotics for shingles, only antiviral. I'm glad the nail polish worked to keep the blisters at bay. That way they didn't spread at least. I have found that the only thing that truly takes care of shingles is time. They have to run their course. My son had them on his face, of all places, a couple of years ago. Doc gave him Zoverax, (antiviral) It didn't really do anything for him, we just kept using Hydrocortisone cream for the itching. I hear it can take up to 2 months or so for them to completely heal. I hope yours heals fast. Hugs! ~Tommie Shingles I came down with shingles around my hip and leg area back in November. My Dr. gave me an antibiotic. I had read somewhere that when you first get them if you put clear finger nail polish on the heads of the blisters for a couple of days that they go away. Well I tried it and it worked. I still itch from time to time, but the blisters didn't ooze. Hugs Diane - Minnesota

Guest guest
Hi Steph, Is this an on going pain like long after the Shingles has healed? Or is it during the healing process? If it's during the healing process, my son had shingles on his face once, they gave him Lortab and it worked for him. If it's on going pain from the shingles that have already healed, then she might ask for some Neurontin or Lyrica. Both of these meds are used to treat nerve pain. Hope something works out for her, I hear the shingles pain is very bad. Take care, Tommie shingles Hello, I'm new here and looking for any information or help I can to help my grandma who has nerve damage/pain from the shingles. She has tried all kinds of pain meds and creams and nothing works. She had a hip replacement in October '06 and developed a bad case of the shingles over the whole hip area. She recently found out that there was a vaccine she should have had at the onset of the shingles but for some reason her doctor didn't do it. She is miserable from this nerve pain and I told her I would do some researching to try to find something. Any thoughts? Steph
Guest guest
Hi Steph I'm Diane and I too suffer from Shingles. I've had two cases since last October. What I use for the itching is hydrocortisone cream. It helps. Also, she might want to ask her Dr. about taking Neurontin. That helps with the nerve pain. If it's really bad, then they can do an epidural or nerve block. Mine hasn't been that severe yet. The latest case is on my back. It still itches and it's hard for me to reach to put the cream on. Hopes this helps. Hugs Diane-Minnesota > > Hello, I'm new here and looking for any information or help I can to help my grandma who has nerve damage/pain from the shingles.
