Dear Alice,

I ran across this post from a while ago while looking for another one of your posts that I cannot find. (It has to do with shadow projection, and the more we neg judge another, allows an opportunity for us to see something about our shadow. In other words, when we have a highly energized overt dislike for a certain person, then we can be sure to find our own shadow lurking nearby....). Anyway, found this post while looking, and at the end you said you would write about the male equivalent to this. I am very interested in these four female archetypes(?sic)/functions? - If or when or if you care, I would love to read what you say about the male version....

In West Europe, the double standard is still accepted n assumed as natural. This keeps the family intact n allows for straying.

In America, a woman considers herself a failure wh her husb splits his anima betw wife/mother n hetaira. I am referring to a remarkable wee bk written by Toni Wolff, Jung's own mistress, called "The Archetypal Structure of the Feminine", now reprinted. It follows the device of J's 4 functs:

wife/mother I amazon

neg [witch] [ball-buster] I

hetaira [geisha girl] I medial woman [unto herself]

neg [bitch] [sorceress]

Needless to say the []s are mine!

Notice the 2 on left need a man to define them! on rt, independent

But the archetypes yield goddesses in mythology n even magazines preferred by them!

w/mother = Gd Housekeeping, etc

hetaira=Vogue

amazon: working woman, sports

medial w=Parabola

I have writt at considerable length ab the planetary connections in my JUNGIAN SYMBOLISM IN ASTROLOGY.

The important thing to rememb is that we women have all 4 positive archetypes in us but gravitate to prefering one more than t'other. N a lot of neg proj cn occur in relationships! Novels, movies, TV abounds!

Young amazons barf at the Southern Belle routine; my whole geenration was prog to be wife/moth! n had to learn to value the amazon independ; a whole gen of amazons are now panicking ab having kids as biol clock ticks on.......

As for the men, their anima has a smorgasbord to pick from!

Am frustrated by inability to write w/out rt hand! If u are interest cn do male eqiuvalents tomorrow!
