I've had to change doctors because of insurance and it isn't easy. It has to be even more difficult for you because of your long relationship. I do hope the new doctor will prove to be all that you expect and want in a doctor. As for school, that would be wonderful. You deserve a space just as much, if not more, than any other student. You've probably worked harder than anyone else...........so go for it if it is what you want. It certainly sounds like a perfect program for you. Hope your knee feels better. Is the wait because that's when you can get an appointment or when your insurance becomes effective? It just stinks that he's not on your insurance. I hope you decide to go to Temple. My husband's parents and brother are doctors and all are Temple graduates. It is a good school. Phooy on taking up space!!! You have every right to be there just like anyone else. I hope you decide to go. It will be challenging, but I know you can do it. You've come so far already, so why not finish your degree. I sure hope this doctor is okay, this has been difficult. But he comes recommended by two other doctors. I am told that doctors who do not take insurance, simply do not need the money. So they can run their practices this way. However, I just can't afford it anymore. I have to call him again and cancel my appointment for April. I am interested in what he says. I am still not sure about Temple. They wanted 150.00 for an admission fee, however I don't have that money. So I wrote to the admissions office and explained my situation. Also told them I am the mother of six grown children. They were kind enough to waive the fee. I figure if God wants me to go, he will let everything fall into place. The next hurdle is if there will be enough financial aid. Needless to say I can not take out a student loan. About 10 days ago I started to take fish oil for my knee. You know I believe it is really helping. I am back to walking which is great. I don't believe the help for me is in conventional medicine. Maybe this vitamin thing is the way to go. I have to share this with everyone. My friend and I went to a lecture the other night on memory and nutrition. Well the woman giving the lecture lost her train of thought four times. We had to help her and tell her what she was talking about. I am telling you, I thought I had a problem until I went to that lecture. Now I feel good. I gave her a descent rating on the evulation form, because I felt the lecture was free. Had I paid for it I would have been upset. What a night!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you are feeling okay. Plus that, the doctors must follow strict insurance guidelines for both diagnosing and treating conditions. They have to justify everything they do with the insurance companies. In short, the insurance companies rule the physicians, so I can't blame them for not dealing with them. Your right, he doesn't need the money. It sad in a case like yours to have to leave a doctor after so many years, but they say things happen for a reason, so maybe something good will come of this. I hope you can find a way to get into Temple. So nice of them to waive the fee. Now if the financial aid works out, you'll be in good shape! I'm almost considered a resident here, so I may go back to college. I have to live here for a year before getting resident rates, and my year is finally up. Fish oil is one that has been tested and a proven remedy. Many people can't take it because it repeats on them. I had the same problem with some brands, but some experimenting helped me find some I could take. Now I eat fish almost every day, I'm not taking the fish oil. I'm glad it's helping you. I believe nutrition is very important. I try to get it from food rather than supplements. Supplement can never make up for eating a poor diet although I'd love to live on pizza and ice cream and pop a pill for the rest of what I need LOL! Many people don't eat fish, so taking fish oil is a great option. My favorite way to get nutrition is through juicing and making slushies. Since having the TMJ problems, juicing took the place of eating a lot of salads and raw veggies. My favorite slushie is spinach, pineapple and banana. As long as you don't mind drinking green slushies! I put a LOT of spinach in it, which is high in iron. I'm anemic, and spinach is high in iron among other things. If I had it in me, I'd go to school and be a nutritionist. I wonder if the speaker had a problem with her memory or just was nervous about public speaking. I see the new doctor on May 16th. Since my medical history is so extensive I am thinking about sending him a note and telling all about it. I thought this would help him with my case. When I called my old primary I was a little surprised that he didn't even try to work something out. I was paying him 45.00 and office visit. If I can go to school it will not be for history. I have had a number of meeting with different people at Temple. I would be going for Community and Regional planning. These people are used in historic preservation. But I have to see if there will be enough money. If there is I will give it a try, if not I won't be going. I am not sure if I am too old for this or not. On the other hand no education or learning is a waste. Will a be able to get a job???? I am not sure about this. If I do it I will give myself three years to complete the program. I don't want to over load and have to drop. How are you doing? I guess your weather is getting very hot. It has been cold here the last couple of days and rainy. But that is how our springs go. I see the new doctor on May 16th. Since my medical history is so extensive I am thinking about sending him a note and telling all about it. I thought this would help him with my case. When I called my old primary I was a little surprised that he didn't even try to work something out. I was paying him 45.00 and office visit. If I can go to school it will not be for history. I have had a number of meeting with different people at Temple. I would be going for Community and Regional planning. These people are used in historic preservation. But I have to see if there will be enough money. If there is I will give it a try, if not I won't be going. I am not sure if I am too old for this or not. On the other hand no education or learning is a waste. Will a be able to get a job???? I am not sure about this. If I do it I will give myself three years to complete the program. I don't want to over load and have to drop. How are you doing? I guess your weather is getting very hot. It has been cold here the last couple of days and rainy. But that is how our springs go. Fish oil is one that has been tested and a proven remedy. Many people can't take it because it repeats on them. I had the same problem with some brands, but some experimenting helped me find some I could take. Now I eat fish almost every day, I'm not taking the fish oil. I'm glad it's helping you. Supplement can never make up for eating a poor diet although I'd love to live on pizza and ice cream and pop a pill for the rest of what I need LOL! Since having the TMJ problems, juicing took the place of eating a lot of salads and raw veggies. My favorite slushie is spinach, pineapple and banana. It may be a good idea to send information before your appointment so the doctor can look over your information before seeing you. I'm really sorry your old doctor didn't try to find a way to keep you as a patient. Maybe something good will come of it. Historic preservation is very important as well as interesting. I hope you can figure out the finances and be able to go. No one knows what the future brings, so preparing yourself to be able to work someday is a good thing. At least it keeps your mind occupied with things that interest you. The weather is still beautiful here, cool at night and in the low 80's during the day. The hot weather will be here soon, but that doesn't bother me. Now if I didn't have air conditioning, I might feel differently. Guest guest Posted May 24, 2005 Report Share Posted May 24, 2005 Hi a, Well I finally saw the new doctor. He seemed nice enough, I was a little overwhelmed by the office and activity in the office. He told me, I don't look like someone with RA. I said thank you and his answer was are you remission. I told him, I most certainly am not. My Rheumy took some offense to his statement. He told me, he will send him the MRI showing the RA. He also said why do you have to look like you have RA. So I am not sure about him. I had sent him a detailed report of my medical history. He hadn't even read it, so that irritated me somewhat. I will just see how it all goes. So there is enough money in financial aid for me to go to Temple. Graduation was great and I had a blast. I will be attending Temple in the fall. I only need 41 credits to graduate with a bachelors degree. I will no longer be a history major. I am going into Community and Regional Planning. In planning people in preservation are used. I am going to try this and give it my all. There is a non-paying internship attached to these classes. So that may tell me what I can and cannot do. Since it is non-paying I don't think it will effect my disibility. I just want to try and see what I can do. So cross your fingers and we will see what happens.\ How you and doing? I hope you are well. I have been in a major flare for awhile now, hopefully things will settle down soon. It seems I am to have another grandchild. My son and wife who had in January are expecting again. There won't even be a year between the babies. It is so nice to see two people who thought they couldn't have kids, having them. He told me, I don't look like someone with RA. I said thank you and his answer was are you remission. I told him, I most certainly am not. My Rheumy took some offense to his statement. He told me, he will send him the MRI showing the RA. He also said why do you have to look like you have RA. So I am not sure about him. I had sent him a detailed report of my medical history. He hadn't even read it, so that irritated me somewhat. I will just see how it all goes. So there is enough money in financial aid for me to go to Temple. Graduation was great and I had a blast. I will be attending Temple in the fall. I only need 41 credits to graduate with a bachelors degree. I will no longer be a history major. I am going into Community and Regional Planning. In planning people in preservation are used. I am going to try this and give it my all. There is a non-paying internship attached to these classes. So that may tell me what I can and cannot do. Since it is non-paying I don't think it will effect my disibility. I just want to try and see what I can do. So cross your fingers and we will see what happens.\ How you and doing? If you didn't see the scars on my knees, I wouldn't look like I had RA either. Did he have any lab tests? Have they been normal? I know it's aggravating that you sent him all those reports and he didn't even look at them. Hopefully the next visit will go better. If not, it may be time to try another doctor. It will be hard to find a doctor to measure up to the one you had for 40 years. I am so happy that you'll be going to Temple!! It sounds like a course perfectly fitted to your interests. I'm not sure about the internship. Although you're not taking a salary, I once read that volunteering can be looked at as the ability to work, so I'm assuming that interning can also be looked at as the ability to work. But then too, SS will assist people when they try to go back to school in order to be able to return to work, so maybe they wouldn't hold it against you. I don't know how they'd find out about it. Just maybe this will turn into a job that wouldn't be to demanding on you. Congratulations Grandma. Your family is growing! and I are doing well, thanks for asking. I talk to my Rheumy and he was also offended. He told me, the reason I am not deformed or look like I have Ra is because I was treated very early on in getting the disease. This makes a big difference. He also said this other doctor should have know that to. The Rheumy is sending him the results of an MRI I had done, that clearly shows the Ra. I am trying to keep an open mind about this doctor. I was so use to the other primary. However I will change if I don't like him next visit. I would be worried about my disability with his attitude. I am going to ask my attorney about the internship. Thank you for the heads up on that one. That is at the very end of the program so I won't worry about it yet. I don't think disability would be upset if they knew I was going to school. At least I hope not, I don't need that problem. I do volunteer at a museum once a week for an hour and a half. Been doing it for years, sure hope that won't be a problem. I can tell you when I am done I am very tired. All I am doing right now is copying marriage announcements from the 1800. It is interesting to read. I haven't figure this out yet but some of the women's and men's names are the same. I think they are either cousins or a bother-in-law marrying his sister-in-law. Possibly the bother died and his sibling is stepping in. Years ago when a women married the second time the announcement would read Mrs. so and so. My friend is doing death announcements. The number of children who died in the era is awful. She had one family were five children in the same family died within the span of six days. It was heartbreaking to read. They had scarlet fever. I once read that many years ago parents did not want to bond with their children just because of the death rate. Anyway I will try school, cross your fingers. This is not something I was going to do. But I think the offer is too good to walk away from. I bet you will be glad to see your grandchildren. I see it is very warm in Florida. My brother lives near Key West and says it is very hot there.
