The milk price is quite low considering what it costs to make sure that the " cleanliness " of the milk is sustained. The farmer isn't the source of the costs, the processor is. I won't get into a whole lot of discussion either, but it brings me back to the whole topic of specialization. Milk can be bought and shipped from other countries, probably alot cheaper. You can specialize in other products instead, so that the US doesn't produce milk. That will work well until the US bombs a friend of the milk-producing country, and the supply gets cut off. That is why there is such a diverse supply of goods in the US and Canada - no one wants to have to depend on another country to supply a good that may or may not be safe. The price that it is being sold at should go back to the source. The farmer needs the income! Anne (BSc. Agr.)
