Guest guest
When I was a child I would have leg pain in my calves that was pretty bad. It would get worse when I grew and always when I had to be on my feet walking a lot. I did not start having nonstop urinary issues until after the birth of my second child. I have had constipation issues for as long as I can remeber but never mentioned it as it was all I had ever know so it didn't seem abnormal to me. If it has gone through several generations whatever the problem it is either genetic or if your family has stayed in the same place environmental. Where are you at? My kids were detethered in Oregon by Wehby and have their Chiari followed in NY by the docs at TCI (who also treat tethered cord when seen in conjunction with chiari) Charnel > --- tethered cord > Date: Fri, 19 May 2006 05:34:20 -0600 > > To: tetheredspinalcord-owner > > > > Hello, > > I am wondering if you can help me out with some questions i have? > > *****How many symptoms/ how severe symptoms would indicate tethered cord? > > ****Would there always need to be bladder / bowel dysfunction to > indicate this? > > ***Would a child's reluctance/ inability to walk a very short distance > without sitting for a rest possibly an indicator of tethered cord? > > ***What about severe leg pains when growing? > > ****Could tethered cord cause severe pain in a quite localized are----- > from knee to ankle? > > *** how is tethered cord proven/ disproven? > > **** if several generations in the same family had almost exactly same > sypmtoms, would this more likely indicate a inherited tethered cord problem? > ((((( leg weakness in walking > severe leg pain in area from knee to ankle > severe headaches > > > > Do you know of a Doctor / specialist in tethered cord that we could send > MRIs to for a preilminary assessment ( i assume this is a main technique > of diagnosis) > > thank you for your help > > Lynn Kading > lynnann@... > > > > !DSPAM:232,446dad80200046414514824! > > >
Guest guest
Tethered Cord can be a life long problem.......unfortunately, the possiblity is always there that it could cause problems again, but the possiblity is also there that it may not cause problems again. Many of us have also heard that once you have this Surgery, you will never have problems again.......they have kind of gotten away for this thinking in more recent years, unfortunately, some are still hearing it. It's misleading, in my opinion. It's kind of sad, but daily living puts stress on the Cord, a Tethered Cord more so.........but you can't stop living. Me Nebraska, USA mymocha@... she unfortunately did retether due to scar tissue twice. I am fairly confused since our second neurosurgeon said this would no longer be an issue once she has reached her full height but clearly there are mostly adults on this site...many of whom didn't start having problems until well into adulthood. He said when she is grown, the cord won't be being stretched but again, there are so many adults on here??
