Guest guest
I was denied SSDI after almost a year of waiting (rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, injuries from a car accident) and have recently hired a lawyer to deal with the appeal process. I have run out of savings and because I live on $264 child support without an income (single parent), I am no longer able to pay my rent. The last few months, my ex-husband has paid my rent with money orders because I know he can't just give me money-I have public assistance that takes care of my meds, doctors and food (Medicaid and food stamps) So this is my problem.....I received a letter yesterday that my benefits may be denied because the IRS provided the FIA with information that I made $312.00 in unreported income in 2003, which they list as my state income tax. I have no idea what that is all about and have to look into that-I have never been penalized for my income tax returns since it is money I had already reported and paid in. As I know I am due for a review of my circumstances, I wonder what is appropriate when you are waiting on disability for months or years with no income- what the heck do they expect you to do? With my lawyer appealing my case and no money, I have no choice but to accept my ex's help. So now I feel like I am committing fraud of some sort (is it income?) and I'm having major panic attacks about how this will all pan out. I have been very ill for over 6 years and I don't know how to explain my situation without getting thrown in jail or losing my medical benefits-at this point that would be catastrophic. Does anyone have experience with this situation?
