Guest guest
I didn't so much " have faith " or not have " faith " (whatever that may or may not be), but it did occur to me that if I just survived long enough a moment might come along bringing me some notion of something I could say to you that might be of (a) interest ( value or at least not, for Thoreau's version of the meaning of " killing time " , _injuring eternity_...?! But hey, if by moving south, you mean you're thinking of not just investing in Antarctic " real 'estate' " (do you realise how many miles below the ice cap ground is? Where it is, en effet, 'ground', and not just water...), please let me know. There's a mountain there named after my brother (one of the initial International Geophysical Year seismologists/glaciologists to winter-over [1 1/2 years] and only a few years ago retired from his annual returns (Antarctic " summers " only). [Now he just has to trot all around the globe while people interview him in what my sister-in-law a few years back irreverently described as their attempts to talk " with these old geezers " before they kick off. Back in my Hollywood years (when I worked in a counseling facility there, not in what LA-ers call The Industry) there was a roadside billboard declaring that Living Well is the Best Revenge. As I never got to Antarctica and obviously never will, I love this brand new little fantasy of and Jan and various Antarctic-resistant flora and fauna living at the base of a mountain surreptitiously (but Officially!) named after my brother. Well, at that I suppose I ought to confess I need perhaps plead guilty to Uncle Henry . I have a Very Important Appointment at 8 a.m. and it's still only a little after 7:30. My Daunting Challenge of the morning (to reconnect my printer just back from the shop) proved undaunting after all so I'm a bit restless for the nonce). Cheers :-) marte
Guest guest
Dear Marte, at 11:40 PM 2/12/2006, you wrote: >I didn't so much " have faith " or not have " faith " (whatever that may >or may not be), but it did occur to me that if I just survived long >enough a moment might come along bringing me some notion of something >I could say to you that might be of (a) interest ( value or at >least not, for Thoreau's version of the meaning of " killing time " , >_injuring eternity_...?! It seems to me you are concerned for no reason. I don't mind what you have to say to me - my problem is I have been too busy to engage in too much computer time online. >Back in my Hollywood years (when I worked in a counseling facility >there, not in what LA-ers call The Industry) there was a roadside >billboard declaring that Living Well is the Best Revenge. I was not suggesting that I would move to the polar regions - somewhere along the great Australian bight would suit me - cliffs, sea, storms and nobody for hundreds of miles in any direction. >Well, at that I suppose I ought to confess I need perhaps plead >guilty to Uncle Henry . See what you can do if you just go with the flow? :-) love,
Guest guest
Thanks for your response, . I was really only trying to " get an oar in " into the that day's dialog[ue?] between you and Dan. Sometimes when people on the lists feel to me (for my kind of shorthand) overly " Yang " I just write something in what, in part, feels to me like a foreign language (i.e. foreign to " my 'yin' " ). In this, just yesterday, I had (what, another? [:-(]) experience of how people who really to many degrees and in many respects know each other really well and know they " care " , have interests in common, etc., can get into a bad tangle of what I've (for too tiresomely long years) been shorthanding as " apples and oranges " , if the yin and the yang (for another shorthand of mine) are at cross purposes. So here's to Happy Valentines Day (if I MUST? :-( -- it's so trivialised and commercialised around here?! Grr.) P.S. to you, , specifically, once again, in the spirit of -- what would you prefer? Mercurius? The trickster? The hangman's card? I stick by my fantasy of loving to think of you and Jan and your " Antarctic-resistant " flora and fauna at the base of the mountain named after my brother. After all, what other Claim to Fame has a pore yin in a yang world like some of the exchanges between you and Dan? [i seem to be suffering from a premature April Fools Day " complex " . The sun has been out at least four days here recently, and it's quite gone to my head! Please, all, do make allowances!] :-) marte
