I had much the same experience when I changed rheumatologists. I dreaded telling him since he was my one and only rheumy since diagnosed (20 years). When I got up the courage, I made an appointment so I could tell him. When I finished talking, he got up, gave me a big hug and said he fully understood why I was taking this action. We parted on very good terms and he only asked that I keep in touch to let him know how I was doing. Here's hoping you have a similar experience.
