Guest guest
Hi! The instructions mean not to nebulize water water. Saline is OKAY. I have used mine for several months and really think it helps. Even took it on vacation because it is so compact and convenient. Enjoy and good health! Guest guest
Well I am a new member with the new bronc diagnosis and am still working with my pulmonary doctor for various methods to combat this nasty disease. No nebulizer [yet] but I do have an Acapela devise; broncal inhalers [albuterol]; a huge stash of antibiotics [Cipro 750] and even a stash of prednisone pills [for flareups]. I got such a flareup prior to taking an overseas trip and I was feeling fine at least for a few days then I got a bad cough with copious amounts of nasty yellow mucus in the middle of my holiday to Costa Rica! Luckily I brought with me my antibiotics and so just now a week later I am feeling a little better. The weather was hot and humid and I traveled through Costa Rica and Nicaragua, coughing my way across these muggy countries. Didn't help when I went canopy- zip riding through the rainforest, hee hee. Nothing was going to stop me but oh boy am I now paying for it! Guest guest
I am a new member as well and this is my first chat with any members. I was diagnosed with this condition about 15 years ago. I had all kinds of tests that were done to finally figure it out (lung biopsy, acid reflux, etc.)I repeatedly get a case of bacterial pneumonia every 2-3 months. I have tried the jacket that helps loosen the mucus from the bronchial tubes, but unfortunately it is not approved by insurance companies...or at least mine. I use QVar 80 twice a day. I feel like I am constantly having to take antibiotics and mostly use Levaquin. This concerns me because I believe I will be resistant before long. I have had prednisone once, but because I have osteoperosis, that is not good for me and not suggested. My doctor is a pulmonary critical care specialist and is a gem. My symptoms are always the same....perfectly fine one minute and then the next thing you know I have a temp that has escalated as high as 105. I would like to find out if others have these same kinds of repeated symptoms and if there are some similarities that we encounter and can learn from each other on how to best manage our condition. I am looking forward to hearing more from others about their condition and treatment, or other tips on coping with this terrible disease. Re: Where is everybody? Guest guest
Hi, good to hear from you. Yes it really is a nasty disease to deal with and on top of that I have heart valve disease and diabetes so I'm really screwed! I had angioplasty a couple of years ago and never thought I would have trouble with my lungs! I was interested to learn that you take QVAR, I was on that 2x a day then the doctor switched me to Advair 2x a day plus a nasal-steriod. He has taken me off both for now. But I agree with you as far as the amount of antibiotics we must take, hate to become immune to antibiotics! It is a concern for me too. Doc asked me to stay on them until I see him again in 2 weeks for another evaluation. Yes, like you, mine comes on like a light-switch ... I cough up a lot of chunk, mostly in the morning -- the acapela breathing devise helps clear the lungs - ask you doc about it. And then of course when I lie down in bed at night, the coughing starts. I sleep with 3 pillows! But as always my mucus cough wakes me up from a sound sleep! I was also advised to get a pneumonia vaccination every 6 years ... it is usually given to patients over 65 but if you're younger like me, it is highly recommended anyway. Plus of course your flu shot. Haven't got mine yet but with winter around the corner I will certainly will be in line for it. This support group offers advice from all over the world, keep checking. I live in California where it is relatively a nice dry climate which I think helps? Guest guest
The breathing device is nothing I have heard of. Can you help tell me what it does. I live also in a very dry, relatively low humidity environment...Idaho. I am not sure about a nasal steroid, but as of late my sinuses is where things seem to start. I have a pocket of silia hairs in my left bronchial tube that has been damaged from a very bad infection, or at least a possibility of the cause according to my doctor, but we really don't know for sure because this can be caused from inhaling toxic fumes, etc. When the air quality is red I stay inside more from our burning fires in the northwest. We get inversions in the winter that keeps the skies gray and thick. What I understand is the sinus drainage and/or coughing (acid) may cause some to land and accumulate in the area where the silia hairs are damaged, where eventually all standing liquids grow bacteria, thus the bacterial pneumonia. I have been a smoker, but not excessively (6/day) and not sure if that has had any bearing on this, but of course my doctor has said to quit more than once to see if it helps. More of a relaxing thing for me. Robbs, L & D Admin. â–ªTâ–ª â–ª â–ªMobile â–ª Meridian Call Center Desk: Mobile: Fax: e-mail: .Robbs@... Re: Where is everybody? Hi, good to hear from you. Guest guest
Hello, Thanks for your suggestion on the devise. I am going to check on it with my doctor asap. Congratulations on your 28 smoke free years. I am doing it and hoping to stick with it. I wasn't sure from our previous discussion if it was something like the flutter. That only made me cough more and I can do what I guess may be called postural drainage from another member to cough up what I can. My non smoking husband too, preaches it and I think it is just going to be done. Thanks for your words of wisdom. Plenty of dogs (5) at my house so they certainly provide some calm therapy. My air lung capacity is pretty good according to my doctor. Has not declined in years but have another test in November and will know more. What do you and your doctor think brought on your disease? Guest guest
Hi , I cannot identify with smoking to relax beacuse I'm not a smoker. When I want to relax I enjoy a nice bubble bath, listen to favourite music, watch a funny movie, get together with family or friends, read, hold and cuddle my cat, do a craft, work on a puzzle, etc. :0) Second-hand or passive smoking from others causes my lungs to fill up more and my sinuses to pound (develop a bad sinus headache). Fortunately, many places in Nova Scotia are now smoke-free. ) This is a huge help in allowing me and many others to get out and about with no worry of inhaling second-hand smoke, and enduring its side-effects. Cigarettes damage the cilia in the lungs amongst causing others problems in the lungs. We need healthy little hairs or cilia in our lungs to help us raise our secretions that build up with our bronchiectasis. Normally, healthy cilia beat back and forth, helping like an elevator to raise and clear screations. When this “elevator” is not properly working this creates further lung complications, and an ideal breeding ground for bacteria to grow. I hope that you stop smoking, because there is no safe amount of cigarettes. Your lungs and the rest of your body will thank you! We had to stop using our wood stove a few years back. It was very hard on my lungs. Some of the smoke from the stove did come into the house despite having a properly working and (cleaned out - once a year) stove. We no longer burn wood, but have some kind of combined oil and water heating system. I still must confess to missing the wood stove, as it truly heated the home better than our current heating system. There is nothing like wood heat! However, it was not worth harming my lungs. Guest guest
Thanks for your information . I am now 6 days smoke free and going to stick with it. I have exactly what you are talking about with the silia hair and bacterial growth, which is what turns my problem into pneumonia most every time. I have the hairs in the left bronchial tube that have been damaged and now there is nothing that can be done to fix it. I don't know if, with time, not smoking will help them heal too. I live in Idaho and we have a lot of wild fires in the summer and inversions of dirty air in the winter. Burning bans are in effect here now but you just can't get away from the bad air in our environment. Thanks to all for sharing words of wisdom. Guest guest
MANY CONGRATULATIONS on your smoking cessation! I am so proud of you! You CAN do it! Smoking is a nasty addiction/habit, I know because I smoked for years a pack a day before I quite cold turkey 28 years ago! Mind you with my new diagnosis of bronc those old smoking days have come back to haunt me! Along with all the other nasty stuff in the air we breath, with already compromised lungs, it is no wonder, eh? My daughter, always a non-smoker, has asthma, although well controlled now [she's 21 and is planning to go on to medical school next year after just graduating from Cal] although my son still occasionally smokes [he tells me ha ha] I am warning him loud and clear!! It is a very difficult thing to do so I am very understanding of your situation! Keep it up. I just want to add that I substituted food for smokes so I gained a few pounds but it doesn't have to happen to you as long as you exercise, eh? **Hey you guys have all had IV antibiotic treatment, that scares the heck out of me, is that my future fate too? I have constantly been on antibiotics, pill form, and seem to have constant cough-mucus production. I can't continue like this, almost a year now! I see my doc in 2 weeks and plan on taking 's lengthy email with me to show him other possible treatments. Thanks for all your support! Janet > > Thanks for your information . Guest guest
I love mine and don't seem to have any problems with the saline and in addition, I use a drop of TTO. has one also. It was great to bring along on my vacation. I hope the TTO will not damage it as it does leave a residue on the plastic parts of my larger nebulizer and it will not wash off. But, I feel the benefits outweight the $3.00 it costs to replace the vibrating cups.I love the fact that the Omron is so quiet. It definately is a factor in choosing a nebulizer for meyself.
