Hi Jennie,

My son Micah had a big variation in scores....always high on his vocab (the

school is constantly telling me how smart he is..as if this is the only

measure of intelligence and negates the need for special services!)...which

I also thought was weird, considering his speech difficulties. Have you had

her IQ tested yet? My son also had a huge difference in the scores of the

three sections of the iq test they gave him (done by a nueropsychologist at

Dartmouth). Another doctor has given him a new diagnosis of nonverbal

learning disability, insisting that his dyspraxia (global remember) is a

manifestation of his disability....that out of just over a hundred kids that

she has given this diagnosis to over the many years she has been in practice

there were only about five which had the apraxia as the most prominent

symptom. I have been interested before to find how many of our kids who

have apraxia as youngsters are later diagnosed with NLD....usually kids are

not diagnosed with that until third or fourth grade, according to the

doctor. What do you think? have you avoided the iq test because you have

been concerned about the results not being accurate due to speech? Read the

stuff out there on NLD and see if you think it matches at all....the primary

way I see that it matches my son is that if you tell him something verbally

he seems to be able to respond much better than if you use body language or

common phrases that have abstract meanings. Telling him a movement to make

seems to help him much better than simply showing him. Email me privately

as well as on list because I have been so swamped lately that I haven't been

reading the list as thoroughly as I used to! Carol kcholt11@...

I am seeing some posts where people are talking about the numbers in

there tests they have had to for RA. Now like IU have said several

times I havent been to my speaclists yet but is it needed to know

whether your score is high or low before I go to him or will he tell

me what it is? What are the good scores and bad scores? I go to the

RA

doc April 15.

Test results come from blood tests. Your doctor should order blood

tests. It's a good idea to keep copies of them for your own records.

Roni,

You wrote:

Except for TSH, none of these are standardized. Without units and reference

ranges, they are pretty meaningless.
