How likely could it be RA when the Rheumatoid Factor is negative?

My doctor says there are plenty of diagnosable cases of RA with a negative

rhematoid factor. Mine's negative, too.

mine's negative too, maybe because I have Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis? I

don't know, I have had it since I was 10. I am now 30.

from what i have read RA does not seem to affect the finger tips as much...but

it seems I remember reading that psoriatic arthritis and other arthritis types

do... however i think about 10=205 of RA patients are sero-negative.

Hi,

My RA Factor was negative at 7, 3 months ago.

My doctor saids OA. I am not confident in his decision. In both hands,

my fingers are swollen, reddened, feeling hot, with reddened bumps on

my fingertips. I now have blood vessels noticable on my fingers, both

hands. The pain will go to my elbow, but not all the time.

How likely could it be RA when the Rheumatoid Factor is negative?

Approximately 20 percent of adults with rheumatoid arthritis may never

have any RF in their blood but around 85 percent of children with

juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) are negative for rheumatoid factor.

Hi all its been a while since i have written. a run down Im 31 diagnosed 1 1/2

year ago with a positive RA factor with MRI showing damage My last blood work

showed a negative RA factor and the new doc said he could not treat me as I was

not dealing with RA and sent me away unwilling to look into my past medical

history and wouldn't call my old docs to inquire more... real creep and I went

to a new doc he said that all people are created differently and that a disease

does not manifest the same in everyone. That as a doc he looks at each person

individually, the symptoms and basically guesses to which disease I am closest

to.Especially in dealing with auto immune issues that they can cross over each

other and it can be difficult to diagnose. At first I was scared but then

relieved at his honesty. REMEMBER DOCTORS PRACTICE MEDICINE practice is the

key word. He said he thought I have RA and would treat me as such until

something showed him differently. What I really like about him is

that he is humble and realizes he doesn't KNOW it all like most docs. Hang in

there, Latisha

Wow! You didn't lose a thing losing that doc! Glad you found a better one. I

have the same problem with the diseases crossing over.

That is so true in practicing medicine. It's an art. Unless there is a

" true " definitive diagnostic test out there, what the doctor told you is a

truthful, honest answer and it occurs daily in millions of clinics.
