Belinda, Leukocytes are measured on the CBC, not the Chem-7, this would be

glucose. Sorry, I can't think of what the SCG would be. Is that on the Chem-7

also? MG

I think there is more than one on-line lab service, but the one I use for my uninsured patients is www.directlabs.com.Deanna TolmanSent from my HTC smartphone on the Now Network from Sprint!----- Reply message -----To: < >Subject: labsDate: Sat, Oct 29, 2011 8:38 pm

Sangeetha,I think the one that had been mentioned before was called PrepaidLabs.com, but they appear to have lost their domain name and redirects to ineedlabs.com. Interestingly, both appear to use LabCorp drawing stations, so that leads me to think that both companies' business model is to have a discounted price contract with LabCorp and then mark up the price and re-sell it to the public. I arbitrarily chose 5 of the most common lab tests that I do and did a quick price comparison, with ineedlabs being consistently cheaper. Of course, it's easy to do your own price comparison. ineedlabs.com directlabs.comLipid panel $25.00 $29.00HbA1C $22.50 $39.00TSH $34.15 $36.00Comp Metabolic Profile $22.00 $29.00CBC w/diff and platelets $16.00 $29.00I have no financial interest in either company. Sangeetha and ,

I'm going to check out www.ineedlabs.com, because some of those prices are definitely lower than directlabs. Direct labs has packages and sometimes they go "on sale." Then their prices would beat these. Consumerism invades even this sacred domain! Guess it would be good to go shopping. Direct Labs also has LabCorps draw and process the labs for them.

I only use these on-line lab services for my uninsured patients or those with high-deductible plans (about 1/3 of my practice.

this is very interesting. have patients been able to get reimbursed by their insurance for getting their labwork through these online companies?

Thuc,From DirectLabs.com FAQ page:Q. Does Medicare cover this? A. Medicare only reimburses the laboratory that performs the analysis. Medicare patients must have a doctor's order by a physician with a Medicare number and acceptable diagnostic code. Q. Is this covered by my insurance? A. DLS does not file insurance claims. Some insurance plans have a wellness or prevention benefit. Contact your carrier for that information. We can provide CPT codes so you may file for reimbursement. So I think this translates to: "Medicare will not reimburse for this." and "You can try to get reimbursed by insurance but we make no guarantees."
