Cindi,

I had 2 rheumatologists that didn't do pain. I dumped both of them and

found a doctor that would treat my pain as well as my RA. I sure wish

you had more options. Do you have a family doctor that can help?

The first time I went to my new rheumy, he said he wouldn't give me anything for

pain because once I started Plaquenil, I wouldn't need it. Well, luckily on my

next appointment my hand was horribly swollen, red and hot and hurt like the

devil. He got to see it firsthand and now he gives me pain meds when I ask.

Lucky you Nina. I'm glad your rheumy had a change of heart. It is the

hope that once we start a DMARD, the disease will be controlled and we

won't need pain meds. Maybe in a perfect world this would happen, but

in the RA world we need pain meds!!

Some rheumatologists aren't very smart. Pain is the

reason you would go to them in the first place. Pain

is the reason I go to my DO...........Joyce M

I also have a PCP (an internist) who is not the best doc in the world, but I've

been seeing him every month for four years, so he knows me well. I can usually

get whatever meds I need from him. He's the one that finally got frustrated

with all my diseases and got me in to see the rheumy in record time (two

months). After the PCP used steroids by IV push and I still wasn't better, he

admitted he was not the best one to be treating me. He did learn a lot about

Sjogren's though, to his credit. He did a lot of research trying to help me.

You have a good doctor Nina. I applaud doctors that research these

diseases and know when to send us to a specialist.

Glad you got such a good doctor!
