Guest guest
, I'm sorry that you didn't get to have the Remicade treatment today. I hope drinking more water does make the veins healthier, I'm not real sure. You sure need that treatment I know that. When do you go back, and try again? I know it's not something your looking forward to. I'm sure someone here can give you some great tips, and get you going. Guest guest
All I can do is empathize. I have the same problem. It is helpful - generally if you drink plenty of fluids and actually have a little more salt than normal. ( If you have high bp or are on salt restricted diet- please ignore that). They often used hot clothes to dilate the vessels in my arms as well. My rheumatologist doesn't like this next suggestion- but other docs and nurse's disagree- it is possible to put a port or a pic line in and use if veins are too fragile. Hang in there. You are not the only one - I think I actually had six pokes one time- they called some one from the lab to help them find a vein. Guest guest
, I can feel for what you are going through. I went through the same thing when I was on Remicade. We finally found one good vein and it was used ONLY for the Remicade!! But, alas, it didn't last long. There are a couple of things you can do. Drinking lots of water the day before and the day of does help make it easier to find veins because it fills them with extra fluid. Don't do this if you have medical reasons not to, such as congestive heart failure (CHF) or other fluid retension disorders. Another thing that helps is if you exercise your upper body. Weight lifting, even small amounts (5 lb.or so. Ever notice how weight lifters have huge veins in there arms?? It does help. veins are little muscles and they will grow. My dad has HUGE veins in his hands and arms because he does a lot of wood chopping and heavy lifting. If the Remicade is workin well for you and the vein issues continue, another option would be to have a port put in. You can have an infusaport placed to either your left or right chest wall. It goes in under the skin and is accessed with a special needle. When not in use, you don't have to worry about it. It does require flushing every month or so, but on Remicade, that will already happen. They make them in small sizes. It does get placed in a surgical setting. People on chemotherapy have these put in for long term use. I would try the first few options then keep this one in the back of your mind as a last resort.....Marina --- In , " " <cyninflorida@y...> wrote: > > Hello everyone, > > I tried to have my second Remicade treatment today and after 5 sticks > and two blown veins they said I had to come back next week.
