Guest guest
This is probably a repeated synopsis for many of u, but basic for any newcomers! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In almost all cultures Wisdom = Hagia Sophia - Holy Wisdom= feminine. Exception acc to Jung = the Roman Catholic translation into 3rd pers of Trinity as Spiritus sanctus!! wh takes a masculine pronoun, thereby conveniently making the Trinity all masculine! Only clue left is the symbol of the Dove! sacred to Astarte n fem goddesses. Hence the title of my bk THE DOVE IN THE STONE wh comes fr a Hermetic Treatise. I have a chap in it titled "A rose is a rose is a rose" [Gertrude Stein] listing many of the goddesses of Wisdom, the world over.' The Trinity consists of Father, Son,and Holy Ghost, who is represented by the dove, the sacred bird of Astarte, and who in early Christian times was called Sophia and thought of as feminine. C.G. Jung The Greek/Russ Orthodox never changed the gender of the 3rd pers n continues to honor the feminine. Another word = paraclete = Comforter. As one cannot kill an archetype!, Sophia hid in fairy tales, I suspect, as the Fairy Godmother! Why God - mother? Aha! Her process is always to mediate invisible/visible worlds giving practical advice. She is always a sacred positive figure not to be confused w/witches, even good ones. See Book of Proverbs 8;22 Her saying is "Ego coniungo" I unite. [Am tempted to spell it conjungo! because psychologically she unites the Unconscious Self w/ego, center of consciousness. [in my diagram of the psyche as circle [mandala] w/centerpt=Self, she is the radius to the ego [small circle on the circumference], half looking out, half looking inward , functioning through duality. . Jung's Self=wick in candle. Each of us has an individual wick, but the Flame is common to all! This is just obvious n represents the task of Age of Aquarius - [we have 2000 yrs to come!]. What w/internet we seem well underway to discovering that everybody is eveyrbody only unique! A paradox of Unity/Diversity. I think I have mentioned the last dream I had of Jung. He shouted at me: CONSIDER THE OBVIOUS! I DID! As some of you know I love etymology, so looked up obvious which comes from ob via, on the road. And in Aurora Consurgens M-L von Franz points out that an alchemist wrote that the Philosopher [lover of wisdom] 's Stone is lying on the road n wagon wheels roll over it! i.e. nothing is hidden, having eyes we do not see. This was my personal clue to Feminine Wisdom: Sophia considers the obvious, finds "sermons in stones", whereas masc intellect rushes by saying it has to be more complicated than that! Not to insult either gender because I am using my animus n every man has an anima ! This is how I came to see the wisdom in a zipper, which = the coincidentia oppositorum, making One out of two going up n two out of One going down! The wee tab being the Transcendent Function! So my husband, bless him, would put on his pants in the morning, zip 'em up crying "Symbolos!" n at night, pull it down whispering "Diabolos!". The Greek words literally mean 'throw together" n 'divide'. Mercury is even hiding in the process of Zip! So going up, he is the archetypal leader of souls, the Psychopomp, n going down he is the process of the Trickster, a kinder word than diabolic. So if u men readers can appreciate the profundity of using yr zippers starting at the Freudian first chakra, etc. u might get late to work!! Now, can u appreciate why Wisdom in the Old Testament is said to be "full of delight!" Wisdom actually is not the Wise Old Man, Saturn. He is wise in that he seeks Wisdom and finds her. I have to apologize, before u carry me off to the looney bin. You may consider this silly. Yet that very word comes fr the German selig wh means holy, Hagia Sophia or Holy Wisdom. The Emerald Tablet of Hermes contains the familiar phrase "As above, so below", logically then we have to start w/below to get to above. Right? Even Einstein had to learn to count as a toddler. Thus in my addlepated way, I find joy in asking common things around the house, "What do you do?" that turns them from nouns into verbs! What do cups do? Contain, n thinking symbolically, always asking that question, u can raise the zipper to level after level: why the Chalice, Sabbath cup, cauldron - Holy Grail - n on up to the highest - Mother Goddess. What do mothers do?? for answer, see below. Don't cheat! love ao Mothers of all species give FORM to life!! Hence Mother Earth. It seems a Solar God needs her to manifest creation.......so in the Old Testament, she is called co-creator. See quotes n more in the book...phew! Guest guest
Dear Alice, Thank you for reminding us of Wisdom's attributes and history. I was wondering where the saying "Ego coniungo" comes from?
