Guest guest
Hello- I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she does really well with treatments. As far as recovery it does vary. Luckliy I think me recovery was a on the longer scale due to complications but I think you should know what " could " be. I am sure you will hear from many people with fairly quick recoveries, so chances are that is what will happen. That said- my recovery is ongoing and I had the surgeryJan 2003. Immediately after surgery I had severe problems with nerve damage. I had difficulty walking - evne more than preop and had nerve pain. I went to rehab from the hospital (one week) and was in rehab for two weeks. Then my wound got infected and was sent to hospital for surgery and ten days. outpatient rehab after that. It took several months before I could take care of myself to any extent. I had bladder and bowel issues that would have been nearly impossible to take care of myself. Anyway- I finally feel like i am moving forward, although I have to learn to live with nere pain. (which might have even ben worse withut surgery- who knows what would have happened since I was losing function every month.) I still have back pain, nerve pain,.bladder issues (although they are better) and numb areas. I don't regret surgery as it was what I needed at the time. I doubt I would do it again though- altough for others it is necessary and very beneficial. I know some people don't like to hear about the longer recoveries but I think everyone should be prepared. Especially as you say your mommight not be able to help. Personally to be on the safe side I would call some home bursing agencies or talk to your insurance about what they cover and maybe get recomendations about good rehabs (some are fabulous and some may say rehab but are basically nursing homes) just in case. Then, most likely you will never need either but you will be prepared! Best of luck and let us now what the Surg. says.
