Guest guest
I've been a quiet member of this group lately, but I will respond to your question. I was put on the antibiotic therapy at the beginning, but it didn't work for me. My ra dr. tried this when I was first diagnosed with ra. Guest guest
Hi! I was just diagnosed 4 weeks ago, but have been researching RA for close to a year now. This is something that I've never heard of. It never even came up in anything I read. Could you point me in the direction of some online information? I go back to my rheumy in a week and would love to ask about it. Thanks. We're waiting for all test results to come back. I have decided to forgo his treatment plan in order to pursue Antibiotic Protocol. I asked earlier if anyone had tried this and didn't get much of a response. Is that because no one is really familiar with it? I realize that many rheumatologists refuse to use it even though clinical studies show that it works in some people. The book " The Road Back " outlines it pretty well as does " The New Arthritis Breakthrough " . I belong to another message board comprised solely of people who are using this treatment method and many of them have wonderful things to say about it. I just can't understand why a cheap, safe, clinically proven method of treating RA (and other things) is being ignored or downplayed by many doctors. There are doctors out there who use it and swear by it too. Am I just naive or too new to this or what?

Guest guest
I have read of people going on antibiotics for their RA but I have never been on it myself. I am taking Naprosyn myself and Prednisone when deeded. But about five or six weeks ago I decided to stay off the Prednisone because I gained up to 205 pounds. I have now dropped back down to 187 pounds since I quit. This Thursday I have to go to the Dr for a shot of Hyalgan in my left knee. There is a series of five shots once a week. He gave me a shot of Prednisone in my back that didn't work but for three days to my back. But it did help my left foot which I haven't been able to put any weight on when I first wake up for years. I have no idea what that shot had to do with my foot but it is so nice to be able to walk on that foot in the mornings. Thursday I am going to ask the Dr about the antibiotic plus something else besides Prednisone...........Joyce M [ ] The Road Back I am new to the group and haven't been 100% diagnosed yet although my Rhuemy has given me a perscription for plaquenil. I asked my doctor about it, because I had Lymes disease a few years ago and it's easy to imagine that the RA was kicked off at that point, especially because the Lymes symptoms included many of the joints that are affected now. In fact I have asked three doctors about a possible connection, and they all said no, so I've let that possibility go! My doctor said the only time the antibiotics seem to help is very mild cases. She considers mine severe. However, I do plan on asking again, since I've been on the traditional meds for over a year and no improvement. I'll keep in touch about it! Guest guest
Hi. I have been on Minocycline for years now...even prior to being diagnosed with RA. After being diagnosed, I still continued on with my regular dose...and haven't noticed any difference. My family physician swears by it...and claims it " cured' his RA after 6 months of treatment. I will continue with my prescription in hopes that it will help my RA. Who knows...maybe I would have shown symptoms earlier had I NOT being taking it. When I asked my doc about Minocycline, he said that it's believed by some that RA is caused by a bacteria in the joints...and that is why Minocycline works. I don't know enough about it to provide you with more info...but I hope you find what you're looking for. - In , " melinwv69 " <m.henline@p...> wrote: > > > I am new to the group and haven't been 100% diagnosed yet although > my Rhuemy has given me a perscription for plaquenil. Guest guest
Joyce: I wanted to congratulate you on your weight loss since coming off the Prednisone. I am slowly being tapered off of it myself right now, and am looking forward to losing some of the 30+ pounds I've gained in the past 2 months since I started taking it. I am so grateful to the relief that the Prednisone provided me with....but on the other hand I resent how dependant my body had become on using it. I also have a hard time understanding how a drug that is supposed to " help " us can cause so many bad side effects. With the weight gain, the pain and pressure on our already sore joints can't be good for us. I hope that you can get a prescription for the Minocycline and that it works for you. It's fairly inexpensive (here in Canada, anyway), and there are a lot fewer side effects than Prednisone. All the best... -- In , " Joyce McCrary " <j.mccrary@2...> wrote: > > I have read of people going on antibiotics for their RA > but I have never been on it myself. Guest guest
I fought with my doctors for years to try the antibiotic treatment. After reading The Road Back, and also being on their support group, I had strong beliefs that many forms of arthritis are caused by bacteria. Unfortunatly most rheumatologists don't believe in the treatment. From what I've read, antibiotics are most effective in early RA. I've had this disease for over 25 years, so for me I believe it is to late. I did see a doctor that the Road Back Foundation referred me to. He wanted me to go on IV antibiotics every day, but he was so far away. I've often thought that Minocycline should be the first drug prescribed for RA since early treatment has the best results. a On Wed, 23 Mar 2005 00:38:30 -0000, melinwv69 <m.henline@...> wrote: > > > I am new to the group and haven't been 100% diagnosed yet although > my Rhuemy has given me a perscription for plaquenil.
