Guest guest
Harry, I can corroborate what you say about exercising dropping your glucose level, but it's not very scientific. If I eat and then take at least a half-hour walk, my blood sugar is fine both immediately and in the 2 hour then 3 hour range. If I don't walk, well it all adds up to higher sugar levels. I walk a minimum of 1-1/2 hours a day anyway and usually twice that when all is sad and done. I have found though that since taking the Actos that sometimes walking for long periods will make me feel run-down, so one time I thought to take my BS and found it was in the low 70s. Hence now when I do a brisk walk I take half a glucose tablet first so it will keep me in check but not to overdo lowering the sugar. Seems to work fine for me, and after 2 hours or so of walking sometimes, I still feel like I could keep going. I'm not one for a bunch of different exercises, never have been. But I do love walking and that has never hurt me. Best regards, Bill Powers
Guest guest
hello what are glucose tabs? and when is it best to take them for some one who hasn't really excerised in a long time. I hav e a fitness center at my apartments but it is not blind friendly. meaning it is not marked for me to go into it. if I do mark them or the equipment I plan to use the markings won't be there. another ? is when starting a excercise, when should one eat before or after excercise? Best regards, Bonnecarre Re: exercise drops glucose level > Harry, I can corroborate what you say about exercising dropping your glucose level, but it's not very scientific. Guest guest
Glucose tabs are quick acting sugars that yield measurable results in the rise of your glucose level in your blood stream. When you experience a low sugar reaction, taking one or two of them will usually resolve the problem without spiking your glucose levels. They come in different flavors and different doses. I use the 4 grams of carb tablets most times, since I can buy them for less money around $5 for a bottle of 50. Guest guest
Wow!, You have a gold mine available for use any time you wish. A fitness center usually has treadmills, cycles, elipticals, rowing machines, and nautalus equipment readily available. Get down there three days per week and learn to operate the equipment. Build some muscle, which is the best thing a diabetic can do for themselves along with a good walk or cycling exercise. I cannot afford the weight machine I want, which cost around $4000, but you have it available to you right there in your fitness center probably. So I use the floor to do exercises like situps and pushups. The best time to do exercises is when you want to do them. If you are like me I hate to do exercises, but I do them any way, because they make me feel better. If I could get the same feeling and health benefits by sitting on my butt, then that is what I would do. My treadmill cost me $1140, and I intend to use it regularly for the rest of my life or until I have to get something else. If you have joint problems in the knees or hips then an elipitical would be the thing for you or a cycle. Treading water in a pool for twenty minutes would be an excellent workout.
