My new issue of Diabetes Interview has a brief article about the need to

shake bottled insulin 20 times before use to be sure it's well mixed. I don't

know about you-all but I was (before reading this) in the habit of rolling or

shaking it only a few times before use. So be warned -- they said the

efficiency of the insulin could be severely compromised by not shaking

enough. Vicki

****Shaking insulin? Like vigorously shaking it? I always was told to roll

it a few times too, and shaking was bad for it - bruises it, or something??

Verrry interesting. I will shake from now on, unless someone comes up with

a reason not to.

Hi,

Yes, shake the insulin bottle to make sure that it is properly mixed and can

work effectively. I was told a long time ago by another doctor that if you do

not, it can crystallize and you will not be getting the maximum use of it. I do

not so much shake it as roll it between my palms. I was taught to do it that

way, but shaking it sounds like a better thing to do. But gently. We are only

talking about a tiny bottle here.
