Guest guest
Please bear with me my new fibro family as i am angry. For the last 2 years i've been dealing with fibro which is depressing, and worse yet,i have been dealing with 2 herniated discs in my neck for 7 years.I applied for disabilty twice and was denied both times. Why am i angry?I live in Florida and i have to go to court for my appeal hearing in 2010.Yes,2010.Here is why i am beyond mad.My BIL's SO works for Disney at one of the resorts as a cook, not chef. She makes $10 an hour. Two days ago she quit her job of 5 years and applied for disability because she has diabetes, and here is why i am p'd off:she has to wait 30 days for an answer and yet she doesn't have to go to court, yet i have a long wait to go to court.I can't work or drive, yet she can.GRRR.Dianne
Guest guest
Hi Dianne, I can sure understand your anger. But if it helps any, there is hardly anyone who ever gets approved without going to the hearing level. And I've NEVER heard of anyone getting approved based on Diabetes alone. It sounds like she is waiting 30 days for her first denial? Is that correct?Or has she already been denied twice? Including me, there are 4 in my family who are on SSDI. All of us, except TWO, has had to go to the hearing level. It took 2 yrs for me to get to the hearing level and then I was approved. Then I got my money fast. It was shocking how fast things went once we had the hearing and I was approved. My disability is/was based totally on Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This was nearly 15 yrs ago and I now have 10 other diagnosis's to go with those 2. Then we have sister #1, she went through one denial and appeal, and when she appealed she used a lawyer, which most don't do that until they have been denied twice. Anyway, she was approved with that ONE appeal with the lawyer. Her disability is based solely on Bipolar. Sister #2, it took her 3 yrs, 2 appeals and then finally to the hearing level. It took her over a year to get a hearing date set up. The court was so backed up. But once at the hearing level, she was approved immediately. hands down, diagnosis Bipolar. Now my brother in law! He had a brain injury which has left him with brain damage. He isn't real bad off, but he can never work again because it wiped out his memory and he can't remember how to do the work he's done all his life. There are many other factors involved with his injury and the damage, but I won't go into all of that. Buy I will tell you that, the damage was enough that he was approved the first time my sister filed for him. It was a total of 7 months from the time of his injury till the time he got his first check. So, with all of this said, the message I wish to relay to you is that every case is different and you cannot let the outcome of anyone else's case determine what yours will be. You just have to be persistent, hang in there, and not waste a lot of energy on anger!! Continue seeing your docs and get pain management. Keep a steady flow of doc visits and all, so there is a good paper trail for SS to follow. When you fill out forms for SS, be as detailed as possible, even if it causes embarrassment with revealing some things. Like how many times per week you are able to shower. How much your abilities to care for yourself has declined. How much of your everyday life you've lost or had to alter in order to live and get by. I hope I've helped some. I wish none of us had to go through all of this. But, it's what we have to do when we become disabled. There really is a light at the end of the tunnel, it's just not in your focus yet! Try to stay positive!!! I hope too that your pain isn't causing too much problems today.
