Guest guest
Hi All, I suspect that many on this list are a bit older so they may have cataracts. It is a simple operation to treat them. Yesterday I checked in to the Boston VA hospital at about 9 am. They had me fill out a lot of forms and finally at about 11 am, they put me on a gurney and wheeled me into the operating room. There was a couple of nurses, an anesthesiologist and the surgeon. About 15 minutes later my right eye had a new lens. I was wide awake for the entire operation and felt no pain whatsoever. Since I live about 70 miles out of town, and needed to have the doctor look at my eye the next day, they offered to let me stay at the Huntington House, across the street from the hospital. The operation and the stay at the hotel was all free. I went back this morning and the doctor remomved the eye patch and made an appointment to come in one week. The VA hospital has received some bum raps in the past. The Time Magazine recently had an article which said that the VA System is now one of the best in the country. I believe it. I attended a conference some time ago. The speaker said that the greatest expense for Medicare was for cataract surgery. The next greatest expense is for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Since I don't have a prostate any more, they won't have to pay for that expense for me. Aubrey Yesterday I checked in to the Boston VA hospital at about 9 am.
