My first rheumy felt that the best course of treatment for me was to take celebrex. Ok, I thought I would give it a shot and see what would happen. Well, nothing happened. Actually, something did happen, I got worse. As time went by, I got a lot worse. In fact, I went to my Internist (who happens to be my primary) and told him what was going on. He read the notes from my orthopedist and decided it was time to put me on MTX. Thank GOD he did. The way I figured it was that I was 32 years old, and my symptoms are getting worse vcery rapidly. I would think that my rheumy would want to jump on this before joint damage occured. Nah, she thought it was best to sit on it!! My ortho said I needed a new rheumy. A friend of mines mom is seeing a rheumy for her OA. She loves her doc. So, I talked to my ortho about him and he said to definately go. So, I did. That was nearly 2 years ago. I love this man!! He jumped on the situation aggressively and hasn't left my side the whole time. He told me to take the narcotics when I needed to and not to worry about getting addicted. He said he would rather I be on narcotics every day then to be on steroids. He helped me get down on the steroids to where I only take them when needed. The last rheumy just kept upping my steroid dose when the effects would wear off. I count my blessings everyday for God bringing me to him. Right now I have the best team of docs anyone could ask for. My orthopedist is worth more to me than gold, my rheumy is worth more than that, my foot/ankle guy is not only a friend but taking excellent care of me, my neurospine surgeon is also a friend and doing his best for me, my internist is keeping tabs on everyone. And, the best part, they all allow me to partake in my care. What I say and feel are important to them. Granted, they all know that I am a nurse (i work with 3 of them) but they also know that I am informed. I would recommend any of them to anyone. In fact, I have. When I feel hopeless, next to everyone in this group, my team of docs are my uppers!! I wish everyone could have what I have there. I couldn't get through this without their support and care.
