Hi Cindi:

In response to your letter regarding your so-called

rheumy where he says that he is a rheumatologist and

does not do pain, well, his patients certainly do pain

and he should be there for them, not for himself.

Unbelieveable. He may be the only game in town, but I

really feel a call to the AMA is warranted to report

this sort of behavior. How does he know what will or

will not work for you without your trying them? This

sort of thing makes me so mad.

I have been very lucky with my doctors - and my

current doc is a DO (and he could prescribe Enbrel or

anything he deems necessary for his patients, by the

way) but has treated patients with RA for over 25

years. He is also open to new information.

Some hospitals or medical treatment centers have

shuttle busses that take patients to and from

appointments - have you looked into anything like that

to see if is available to you. There has to be a way

to get you to a better doctor - one who will truly

care and try and help you to the best of his/her

ability. How far are you from the nearest city where

more treatment options are available?

I am so sorry that you have been treated like this -

this is just not right.

My Rheumy is about the same in respect to pain. He will only prescribe

'Ultram " , which is like candy for me. I don't know if it's a standard, but

he stays in business. Maybe he gets a lot of money for teaching, that's his

title at the hospital. Thank goodness for my other Dr, he prescribes

something better but it still doesn't always help.
