Larry,

I hear yah. I had almost the exact same experience with my job as you did

and they fired me when I got sick. Even though I tried everything to get

retrained and moved to a job I could do. My job found it better to fired me and

hire some 19 yo kid off the street and spend a $10k training them.

Which by the way I worked for a MAJOR computer manufacturer here in Texas.

Since I left that job I have worked one job which lasted a few days because I

got the flu..and could not comply with there attendance policy....so they

fired me too. Hmmm..its funny cause they make the employees come to work sick

and with the flu...the place is a big cesspool of germs....they just pass crap

around. My immune system just could not hold up to this kind of assault.

I also got fired from my job for being sick and I live in Texas. It's one of

the worst (if not THE worst) state in the country for workers rights.

Yep, makes you wonder why they call it a " right to work " state, doesn't it? And

the workers comp laws are just as bad. I've often thought of moving to CA, but

I'm a Native Texan and can't bring myself to leave. My husband got fired last

year when they found out he was having some heart problems. Two weeks later he

had a quadriule bypass. Then when he tried to go back to work, he found if they

did a physical and found out about the bypass, they wouldn't hire him. Texas

does not care about diability laws, no matter what your disability is. I'm so

glad I don't have to look for work with all my health problems. Just the stress

of that alone would send me into such a flare they would have to wheel me into

the interview.

Nina, you're confused about the " right to work " definition. It doesn't say

anywhere that it's a " right to get paid for work " . You can work as much as

you want. ;)

Nina and Dennis, I have always lived in Texas and I agree

with you both. Often I think Texas stinks. I have homesteaded

my home but my taxes are still going sky high. Talking to

the tax collector hasn't done any good either. I have thought

of selling my home, moving out in the country into a doublewide

mobile home and get rid of this brick house.........Joyce M

The price of land is out of sight. Everyone wants to move to the country and

then they turn it into the suburbs!

Are you guys aware that " right to work " refers to whether there can be mandatory

union membership? It has nothing to do with working with a disability.

No one said it had to do with a disability. What it means in Texas is that they

can fire you for any reason or no reason. You cannot sue for wrongful

termination. Texas has so few unions (which is why so many companies move

here), that it's a moot point.
