,

Thank you for your kind words.

I am OK. It was a pretty bad storm where I live. Flooding was pretty

bad. From my neighbors I hear it was the second worst in at least 30

years. Wind not as bad as last time but tide was still very, very high.

The storm came across Chesapeake Bay at the VA Beach/Norfolk area and

then up the Rappahannock River pushing water all the way. Had about 6

inches of rain, winds up to 50 MPH and a very, very high tide. Could

have been worse. Not sure how much higher than normal the tide was but

it came into the community where I live. There was one area that looked

like a branch of the river back several blocks. I live on high ground so

it never threatened my house but it made a BIG mess down the street.

Neigbor had a car flooded. From the others who have lived here longer I

understand Isabelle was worse several seasons ago. Sounded as if I lived

on the ocean with very big waves on the normally calm river. I doubt if

you saw my area on the news although they did send a news crew out from

Richmond.

I may go out on the river today in my kayak to paddle through the marsh

just to have some peace. It is my meditation place. I am alone with

minnows, beavers, muskrats and even saw what looked like a mink

recently. I watch the butterflies and the dragon flies, which are my

favorite. They are all different colors and sit on top of the reeds

looking like stars on the top of a Christmas tree. They frequent my

flower garden along with the hummingbirds and the goldfinches. If I am

lucky I will see one of the reclusive birds that live in the marsh.

Soon the migratory birds will be coming. We have eagles that have been

coming into the neighborhood more and more frequently. Was swimming

last week, actually floating, when one landed about 20 feet from me on

the beach. I stayed still and got to watch him up close.

Most of the time it is a peaceful and beautiful place to live.

I live in rural Virginia on the Rappahannock River just north of

Tappahannock. This is where the the Revolution against the British

began.

" The British Stamp Act of 1765 led directly to the American Revolution,

and it was in Tappahannock that one of the first confrontations

occurred.

Leading merchant Archibald Ritchie, who supported the Stamp Act, was

labelled as " the greatest enemy of his country. " On February 27, 1766,

gentlemen from nine counties gathered at Leedstown to draft the

" Resolutions " that led Virginians to disobey Parliament. They also made

plans to publicly humiliate Ritchie and the Scots merchant Archibald

McCall. These events occurred seven years before the Boston Tea Party. "

Happy that were are no longer fighting.

If you are curious and want to learn more about where I live.

We are out of the way but if you are ever in the area let me know you

are coming. We can share some oysters at Lowery's. I will make you a

cup of tea and we can drink it on the porch and you can see my little

part of the world.
