Guest guest
Dear Alice, As you know, demanding huge piles of dreary " documentation " compiled by mediocrities is one of 's favorite rhetorical tricks - if you don't know every obscure paper by every nugatory assistant professor, then, he implies, you don't know the topic and should be quiet. This is, I would say, a typically modern attitude, and one runs into it with lawyers all the time, in my experience. (I have said and will repeat that would have been a most effective lawyer.) So, in dealing with lawyers, quote 'em a pile of " research " , and that usually silences them, or rather puts them on another tack. But what does any of that have to do with the truth? Nothing. The truth is not gathered up like piles of bricks. Especially with respect to the so-called social sciences, you can use the " research " to support about any opinion that you want. What is needful is not " research, " but insight. There is nothing of consequence that a giant intellect like Jung's cannot learn by means of direct observation - and giant intellects are the only ones that count. The rest of us should just sit at their feet.
