Guest guest
Glucosamine has shown to relieve symptoms including pain and stiffness from osteoarthritis. Here is a site with lots of reading: http://www.chiro.org/nutrition/glucosamine.shtml MSM studies show that it eases rheumatoid arthritis symptoms in mice, but I don't believe any human studies have been done. There has been a big interest in MSM since the actor Coburn started going on talk shows to promote MSM. I've heard rumor that he was paid a lot of money to advertise MSM, so it's hard to know if he genuinely was helped by MSM or just his bank account was helped. Many people claim to have been helped by MSM, so I feel there has to be something to it. It is just one of many unproven remedies that needs to be investigated, but pharmaceutical companies won't do it since they can't make money off of it. a On Mar 25, 2005, at 12:08 PM, tandarat wrote: > > > Hey, guys, > > I'm still in the process of being diagnosed, but I was wondering if > anyone has been using glucosamine and MSM to help control symptoms. > I've been using it for about 6 months, now, and it does seem to help > (as long as I'm taking both together - alone it does nothing). Guest guest
Glucosamine may increase the anti-inflammatory activity of NSAIDs such as ibuprofen. This interaction may result in the need for lower doses of these medications. Glucosamine may interact with certain diuretics, necessitating higher doses of the diuretic. This shows the importance of telling our doctors everything we take including supplements. I don't know of any reported liver problems. Everything I've read about Glucosamine indicates it is safe and non-toxic. a On Mar 25, 2005, at 1:24 PM, Nina wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: tandarat > > > Is anyone else having results with this combination? Guest guest
Nina, Glucosamine is metabolized by the liver so if you already have liver problems, a physician should advise if it's safe to take. Maybe I phrased it incorrectly. I haven't heard of glucosamine CAUSING liver problems. From what I've read, glucosamine is naturally occurring in the body and is not considered toxic. But again since we are all different, I guess it's possible that someone could have problems with it. Here is some pharmacokinetic data for anyone interested: http://www.carefirst.healthinkonline.com/modules/goldstandard/ monograph.asp?cpnum=2270 & name=Chondroitin;%20Glucosamine When supplements were tested to see if what was on the label was really in the bottle, Osteo bi-flex had a superior record. a On Mar 26, 2005, at 1:01 PM, Nina wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: " a " <a54@...> > > > I > don't know of any reported liver problems. Guest guest
Here is what the Arthritis Foundations says about MSM and DMSO: http://www.arthritis.org/resources/arthritistoday/1999_archives/ 1999_11_12explorations.asp MSM is a naturally occurring sulfur compound found found primarily in the muscles, brain, hair, skin and bones. Sulfur is an extremely important, though little known, mineral that comprises 0.25% of our total body weight. Do a google search on MSM and you'll find thousands of sites, but most are trying to sell it. a On Mar 26, 2005, at 1:04 PM, Nina wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: " a " <a54@...> > > > MSM studies show that it eases rheumatoid arthritis symptoms in > mice, > but I don't believe any human studies have been done. > > What is MSM? > > Nina > > > > > > >

Would be different if they made me feel better. I keep trying new ones, but they either don't help or have side effects I'm not willing to deal with.
