Yes, it's possible, but you should be advised by your physicians that it is not highly likely. Often imaging techniques will not show very early disease that has escaped the prostate.Don't allow yourself to be pressured to go one way on this, until you feel personally convinced that the decision is right. You most likely don't have a LOT of time to delay treatment, so your #1 priority is now learning as much as you can about your disease. Also, get as many professional opinions as you can, from urologists, oncologists, and radiation oncologists. You likely will want 2nd opinions in all these areas. The FIRST second opinion you should get is from a pathologist who specializes in PCa. If you have to send your biopsy slides to Hopkins or Mayo, that is OK.If you don't mind, share with us your location, age, state of health (any medical conditions, etc.), and any symptoms you may have had or are having. How was your PCa discovered? The advice given here in the few hours since your post has been pretty sound. This isn't easy, but that is what a support group like this is for - to give you support in dealing with decision making, problems, and hopefully to help you make the decision that is best for you. - jdnmd>> Although scans indicate no spread, is it really possible for a gleason > of 8 to be encapsulated, have the prostate removed, and no reocurrance? > Am seeing a new specialist tomorrow - must drive 6 hours one way. > Would appreciate any messages.>
