Hi,

I am having a bad time with my knees. Especially the right one it is so

painful. I have a question though. I love to walk and try to walk

everyday, of course now that is problem. I did go out on Monday though.

Someone told me if I wrap my knee or put a knee brace on it when I walk it

would be better. I would appreciate any input any one can give me. I

really don't want to stop walking.

Hi Lynn,

Sorry to hear your having problems with your knees. I was having a

bad time with my knee, and a cortisone shot helped me quite a bit.

You might ask your doctor. Also if you have a lot of inflammation

they can drain the knee(s).

Take care, Tawny

Hi, Lynn. A knee brace can help, but it could cause problems, too.

You really should have it looked at my an orthopedic doc. If you

decide to go ahead with the brace, I would recommend that you get

one with an open patella. These can be found ove-the-counter along

with the ace wraps and other products. They can be found in

neoprene as well as latex. If you don't have a latex allergy or

sensitivity, I would go with that. I do have a latex allergy and so

I use the pull on neoprene. The neoprene is hot and I sweat in it.

That makes it even harder to get off!!

But, be sure to go with the open patella because they don't add

unnecessary pressure to the patella, which makes them less painful

to wear. The closed patella ones, or even ace wraps, add pressure

to the patella and that leads to a lot of pain. So you treat one

area only to irritate another!!

The one I bought is a pull over and it has two velcro straps ( one

abouve and one below the knee). It is fairly comfortable and it

does help. They are not that expensive so if it doesn't help you

then you won't be out a lot of money.

I hope your knee gets better. Make sure you take some form of anti-

inflammatory for it as well, especially before you go out for your

walks. But, I would highly recommend seeing an orthopedist to make

sure you don't have some kind of ligament tear, meniscal tear, or

even some kind of erosion.

Take care, Marina

Lynn,

I recently went through some problems with my knee. I tried wrapping it and

it did not help at all. I let it go for about 3 weeks before I couldn't

take it anymore and saw my dr and got a cortisone shot. That helped a lot

and I have been able to go back to some of my activities.

Hi ,

I was afraid I might have to get these shots, I sure hope not. I called

the Rheumy yesterday and he gave me some pain medicine. Although I realize

I will probably have to find out what is going on. I am going to call him

again if it keeps up. I am in the middle of changing insurance Hopefully

everything will be settled by the first of the month.

Thanks for your help,

Lynn

Hi Marina,

Thanks for the note I will take it with me if I go to buy the brace. I am

going to give the meds a chance if that doesn't help, then I will call and

ask about the anti-inflammatory meds.

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
