Acyclovir and Valtrex

Valtrex is converted to acyclovir once in circulation. Valtrex is

described as better assimilated, thus (eg) four tons of Valtrex delivers

more acyclovir than would four tons of acyclovir not in Valtrex form.

Simply Valtrex is 6X more bioavailable than acyclovir, so you would have to take

many huge pills a day (since they only come in 400 and 800mg) with the acyclovir

to get what you can get in two pills for the Valtrex, as the dose is usually

1000-1500mg or more. Dr. JM
