Hi, All; " marte here " -

? " Ad nauseam " ? in my by-now only very-occasional posts, I reiterate

that unlike ... maybe _everyone_ else here? ... I am not signed up

for individual posts to be sent to my personal e-mail address. So

when I check in here I'm always a number of posts ? " behind " ? and

always have to try to sort out, within myself, my concerns for " group

process " (harmony? tolerance? efforts to understand one another?) and

my perhaps equal-in-force individual interest in (and affection for!)

individuals.

Yesterday was an especially slow-start day for me (for boring

reasons) and I confess when I finally was able to try to read,

understand, and reflect on the posts that had accumulated, I wound up

befuddled and tired.

Ah weel, this is a new day, a new start.

The most recent post here is from . ( " Steve " ?) I owe

you more than one offlist post by now, so I'm doubly behind on that

one. But, so, next, to ? " and Dan " ? " Dan and " ?

Jeez, guys, for a long ago ecclesiastical (so to speak) speech mode,

all I could think of (some times I go to that mode for the simple

nonliteralism of its poetry; _not_ its saecular " meaning " ) was: " Why

do the heathen so furiously rage, and the people imagine a vain

thing " ?

What IS it with you two guys?

Me, I'm such a d*** simpleton (fool? Woman??), I love you both. And

I love your styles because they're _yours_. And obviously your

personality style (whether or not measured by Myers-Briggs) (or, for

my earlier test preference, " Gray/Wheelwright " ), your thought modes

and, implicitly, at least _some_ of your values, differ. How much

fundamentally and how much stylistically, I ? " hae nary a clue " ?

But some moment or other when one or the other of you (ha?!) " has

nothing better to do " , tell me, PLIZ, what are you trying to

accomplish by this ongoing knocking heads between the two of you?

For yourself (each) or yourselves (the two of you) or the group? Or

your principles themselves?

I often count on Dan's greater-degree past immersion in and

acquaintance with writings of the Plato/Aristotle times and school to

help me out, say, with the word " argument " . When my oldest stepson

finally settled on a permanent career choice (after several previous

other explorations) he decided to become a lawyer and did and is. I

grew up among lawyers but they weren't courtroom advocates, they were

law researchers in ? " dry " ? fields of studies. So when my oldest

stepson told me his reason for becoming a lawyer was that he " liked

to argue " , it rang a noisy clang of bells in my head and heart

about/from the fight style of adolescent wranglings I'd lived with

among them all.

But isn't there a more ? " dispassionate " ? meaning to the

word " argument " ? This is where I think Dan could help me out most.

O.K. so enough (too much) on all of that.

Final notes:

Toni - it made me very sad to read your latest post. Quiet and

_lonely_? Ouch. You are so brave, wise and practiced with your

meditation regimens and appreciation of, no, not " loneliness " , but

_solitude_.

And, for a wind-down, Alice, BRAVA!! -- for everything you do, for

your wonderful (good) humor, resilience, and long " service " to this

list as well as your multiple works.

And so with that, I will return -- for the nonce, any way -- to

my ? " lurker " ? snail shell ... with apologies (if necessary [*]) for

a " rant " (if that's what this is?).

[(*) Alice early on scolded me for apologising so now, you see, I

feel I have to apologise for apologising!!]

Cheers, All!

marte

[i don't use Yahoo so I can't make the smiley faces aoh can and

does. Worse luck!!]
