Someone on another list I belong to asked what normal postprandial BGs were.

Anyone here know? After one hour? two hours? And does it depend on how many

carbs were eaten for " normal " folks, like it does for us? Vicki

Gee, this makes me sick. I shake my head wondering if they really do get a

kick back on dispensing prescriptions. I mean seriously, what if all of us

stopped needing medications and were able to keep our blood sugars normal

with diet and exercise. Then what?

I responded with the fact that increasing my carbs may very likely cause my

blood sugar to go up.

I was shocked. needless to say, I won't be seeing him again! >>

Geeee ... this is so discouraging ... I am not surprised when dietitians or

even general practitioners make such statements, but it is a real

disappointment when an endo acts this clueless. Aren't you glad you have the

online groups, to help you keep your sanity when forced to pay good money

for such witlessness?

You are so right. This group pointed to Dr. Bernstein's book, and it

changed my life!

Vicki, I have thought for a long time that you are a type 1. Ron Sebol and I

exchange e-mails, and I have been urging him to suggest you forego the

glucophage, because I believe it just confounds your results. >>

I've been hoping to discontinue the Glucophage for quite a while now but he

thought we should get the base numbers established before we cut it out. And

things kept changing. I'm hoping soon we'll reach the point where I can stop

it. These eighth unit doses are really, really hard to do! (but at least

now I have the diluant to work with!) V

Vicki:

When I got the last post I made, the columns were all mixed up so I will

rephrase the response so it will work. The suggested readings,

according to Kaiser, are listed in the following order: Excellent,

Good, Fair, and Poor.

Before meals: 80-120, 121-140,141-200, and 200+

2 hours after meals: 120-140, 141-180,181-240. and 240+

I hope that this is easier to understand.

:) Erwin

The recommendations from the ADA is not higher than 180, but my doctor put

my personal goal at 140. You should ask your personal physician about your

post-prandial goal.

and creates a vision for tomorrow. "
