Guest guest
The pelvis is made up of several bones, of which two are the ilium and the sacrum. The sacrum is in fact made up of five fused vertebrae. The sacroiliac joint is like the bones of the skull in that it is not a true articulation. The hip joint is the ball-and-socket joint between the pelvis and the femur. It is often difficult to distinguish between sacroiliac, back and hip pain, although clinical examination can give some clues. Confirmation comes from X-rays, scans and the like. The reason it is so difficult to tell where the pain is actually coming from is the nervous pathways which give rise to referred pain, which by definition seems to be coming from somewhere else. Hope that helps, n
