My Mama has taken pain meds for a long time. When I was 12 she had a

hysterectomy and the dr butchered her bladder. She used to spend half of her

time with a catheter. Because she could get her kidneys to act. it was nothing

for them to catherize her at the ER and get 1000cc of urine from her. During all

this time Mama was taking

Demerol 100mg. at home. so she has a very high tolerance to pain meds. And she

will tell you she has a low tolerance for pain.

But during the time that she was taking the Oxycontin my brother was very sick.

He was a diabetic since he was 24. he didn't take care of himself. so Before he

passed away at 44. He went through kidney failure, losing most of his vision,a

heart attack and open heart surgery. We didn't think he would make through the

heart surgery because he was so sick. They gave him a 30% chance of surviving

the surgery. But he did and got a little better. When he was in the hospital is

when I fractured T-11 I was picking him up out of chair. Anyways, he came home

and was never really able to walk due to diabetic neuropathy and muscle

deteriation in his feet and legs. he had the surgery in Jan. and in Nov, he was

on dialysis and had his last and final heart attack. So, Mama really didn't want

to know what was going on.

Daddy still has to monitor her meds for she will take to much. I think now she

is using the Dura-Gesic 75mg patches, Hydrocodon 10mg for break-through pain,

and soma. Plus Ativan, sleeping pills,etc.... I could not even function at all.

And used to keep going when these meds if she wanted too. but I guess it has all

taken a toll on her. So, I am scared to death of these pain meds. But, I don't

have a choice. The pain is so bad I have to take something. Right now I am

taking Percocet 10mg, every 4-6 hours as needed. I did take the Morphine Sulfate

CR 30 mg twice a day for a short period but after I had taken it a couple of

weeks the only thing I could tell it did for me was severe constipation. I have

diverticulosis in 2 places. And constipation is very bad for this condition. So

I had to come off of it. But when I go back I plan on talking to my Dr. about

something else. Because I have to take a Percocet every morning when I get up

just to get my body to moving. (I do not drive when I am taking these.) Which

means if my husband is at work 90% of the time I am home.

Gosh, didn't mean to tell me whole life history. but started typing and could

not find a place to stop.
