Guest guest
Hi My computer I normally use is giving me some trouble and I am on my old one. I wanted to say your posting info about politics was fine and I should not have made a negative comment. How has your health been this weekend? Do you find cold or warm weather to cause more trouble with your health? My MS hates the heat which angers me because I love warm day's. When my legs get too warm my legs feel like they are in concrete. Bill SWANK Diet survey If you have followed the Swank Diet did it work for you? What are your thoughts? Guest guest
HI CHRISTOPHER, I JUST HEARD ABOUT THE SWANK DIET LATELY AND HAVE NOT CHECKED IT OUT. IS IT A GOOD ONE?. I HAVE BEEN DIETING FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS NOW TO LOSE WHAT I GAINED WHEN I QUIT SMOKING AND NOT MAKING ANY PROGRESS BECAUSE MY THYROID WAS ACTING UP AND IF I HAD NOT BEEN TRYING TO LOSE I WOULD HAVE GAINED A LOT. SO AT LEAST I HAVE BEEN EATING HEALTHY AND NOT GAINED MORE. I HAVE ALSO ADDED TO MY SUPPLEMENTS . SO MY THYROID IS STILL NOT RIGHT BUT WE ARE WORKING ON THAT. WHERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO CHECK ON THIS DIET? MAKE IT A GOOD WEEK FOR YOU LYNN
Guest guest
Hi Bill, Thanks for the note. Looking back I should not have gone off on the politics of our President. I love America and am glad to live here; I get too concerned about some issues and can become too intense, blame it on studying public policy in grad school. In fact I had to catch myself just now from going back down that road LOL. My health is okay but I stayed in this weekend and slept because I was simply too tired to care about anything else and I'm also obsessing about whatever it is that is wrong with me. It is scary to think that at 37yo I may be at the peak for what the balance of my life holds. The constellation of symptoms is wide and since I look healthy I find it odd. I went to a doctor Friday but he is passing me along the line for another to poke-and-prod for additional study. Fortunately it is cold in Dallas lately so I have the temperature on my side; the summers here are what wear me. On a positive note out of fear of exacerbating these symptoms I've started watching what I eat and have found some great free resources, they are: (a) http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/Index.html - FitDay takes the guesswork out of your daily dietary, nutritional, & fitness management. (http://nat.crgq.com/about.html - Nutrition Analysis Tool (NAT) in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois that gives detailed info about food. Imagine being able to create your very own food label for whatever you want to eat, that is in essence what this does The thing I'm trying to figure out now is whether to follow the " Swank Diet " or the " Best Bet Diet " but since there are many similarities it is manageable. Only hard part is setting aside things I like, for instance soy milk, gluten, coffee... Thanks for the note. If there are any tips/tricks that help you I'd sure love to read them. Guest guest
The Swank Diet is a low-fat diet the treatment of MS developed designed over a 35-year period of research with hundreds of MS patients It's basic tenets are: (1.) Saturated fat should not exceed 15 grams per day. (2.) Unsaturated fat (oils) should be kept to 20-50 grams per day. (3.) No red meat for the first year. (4.) After the first year, 3 oz. of red meat is allowed once per week. (5.) Dairy products must contain 1% or less butterfat unless otherwise noted. (6.) No processed foods containing saturated fat. (7.) Cod liver oil (1 tsp. or equivalent capsules) and a multi- vitamin and mineral supplement are recommended daily. You can find out more about it at http://www.swankmsdiet.com/about.htm I've also been reading about the " Best Bet Diet " for MS which advocates you: (1.) Avoid all dairy, grains, legumes, eggs and yeast. (2.) Avoid all allergenic foods which are identified by skin and ELISA tests. (3.) Avoid all red meat and margarine (4.) Eat fish and skinless breast of chicken and turkey, for protein fruits and vegetables for carbohydrates and micro-nutrients and extra virgin olive oil and unrefined sunflower oil for fats. (5.) Take 17 recommended supplements See http://www.direct-ms.org/bestbet.html for more info about " Best Bet Diet " > HI CHRISTOPHER, > I JUST HEARD ABOUT THE SWANK DIET LATELY AND HAVE NOT CHECKED IT OUT. Guest guest
Wow, , it looks like we have quite a bit in common. I'm 34 and studying political science-hoping to go into international relations. I'm in the same DX situation as you...not knowing yet what is wrong (although they have a good idea). The worst part for me is that the sx are interfering with school so much. It's hard to drive with my vision and I also used to drive to and from Disneyland which is a 3 hour commute every day. I can't do that anymore and really miss it. You take care! Drew ---- " When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do. And one thing it takes to accomplish something is courage.
