Guest guest
Hi .. another here. My son has been strictly on the Low Oxalate Diet for 4-5 months now. Slater too was Dr.JM's patient and recovered but still had gut issues no matter what we did and I was also stumped. I found when we went low oxalate, that ALL gut bugs went away. Not at all saying this will happen with even one more child but it was our experience. Now we have occasional flare ups that I would have called yeast or bacteria. BUT now I have figured out it is oxalate issue and can correct it now that his gut is in better shape in a day or so with food adjustments and with supplement adjustments. We were always on naturals and had many rounds of prescription meds too but it still kept coming back. Drove Dr. JM and I crazy! Within a few weeks of starting the diet, I backed off strong naturals with good results... we had also been on prescription Colozal forever and within 2 months we were totally off of it too. We've had no flare ups that I could not fix with the adjustments I mentioned. It has really amazed me and I don't understand it.. like said there is much to be discovered yet. All I know is I am SOOO glad to be rid of gut bugs! We are also eating fruit again and I cook with organic raw sugar now because xylitol is not recommended with oxalate issues and I heavily relied on it as the only really safe sugar alternative. Even with the sugars, we have not had any yeast issues at all and it's been almost 5 months now. Hope things work out well for you whatever you decide to do.
