I don;t know which one of the gastric bypass procedures you had...but the

malabsorption portion of your surgery may require higher dosages of pain meds or

pain meds given either by injection or IV to acheive pain relief. Remind your

Rheummy of your gastric bypass surgery and the fact that you have

malabsoprtion that could be playing a part in how effective your oral

medications are.

Good luck,

Toni

Hi Tawny.

Yes, I am also on the folic acid as well. As for the Prednisone, I was

on a tapered dose, and I became increasingly ill each time my dose

was lowered, so I am on a steady amount right now. I am limited as to

what I can have for pain because I've had a Gastric Bypass, so I am

stuck with the Tylenol 3's with Codeine. They don't take away the pain,

but just take the edge off.

Thank you for the welcome, I'm glad to have found the group.

Toni:

Thanks for the reminder. I was hospitalized earlier this week due to a

problem with my pain meds and not eating enough before and after

them. My liver and bile duct went into spasm for hours, and the pain

was unbearable. Was hospitalized, given morphine and they monitored

me until it all settled down.

I had the RNY, so when I eat or take meds, it goes into a

small " pouch " , then right into my intestine. I don't have stomach acid

breaking things down, so I have to be careful and make sure I eat with

all my meds. I have another appointment with my Rheumatologist and

will review everything with her. My concern is also how hard the meds

are on my digestive system and whether or not they are causing

damage.

I don't for one second regret having my weight loss surgery. I can only

imagine what pain I would be in if I were still carrying around an extra

150 pounds. I don't know how my joints would have held up.

I appreciate your concern...
