1. Pharmtrip

For more information on bus trips to Canada, contact

Pharmtrip at 1-877-715-7100.

The next trip is planned for May 23rd.

Cost: $50

Savings from last bus trip, March 1:

37 seniors took the trip to Canada.

Total savings: $21,600 for 3-month supply.

Saving Money with Pharmtrip:

In Canada, prescription medicines could be anywhere from 30% to 80%

cheaper.

Tamoxifen is a drug that treats breast cancer.

Price in Canada for three month supply -- $56.63

Average Price in U.S. for one month supply -- $300-400

One Columbus senior saves $442 a month, enough to pay his electric

bill, water bill, telephone bill, and trash removal for three

months.

Why is it cheaper?

Your money is worth more in Canada.

The Canadians have a socialized system and they say what the drug

will be purchased for.

Are all prescriptions available?

No, one Columbus man takes 17 different medications. Canadian

pharmacies only carry five of them, but he still saves hundreds of

dollars.

Is it legal?

Yes, as long as you don't exceed the 90 day supply, and you see a

Canadian doctor to co-sign your prescription.

Do you have to be a senior citizen to take part?

No, it's for anyone whose insurance doesn't cover prescription

medicines.

You can save on over the counter medicines:

36 tablets of Allegra: $22.39 in Canadian Dollars

In US: CVS price, $57.59 and must have a prescription

2. Northern Lights

For more information on Northern Lights, call

1-866-850-3941

Steve Stocklin of Northern Lights helps people get up to a three-

month supply of their prescriptions through the mail.

Canadian law requires a Canadian doctor co-sign a prescription. You

must sign a document giving limited release to the physician in

Canada to rewrite the prescription since you're not physically there.

Is this legal?

The State Pharmacy Board is investigating whether or not it's legal

to do this without a face to face meeting with the Canadian doctor.

So far, no one can tell Steve he's breaking the law.

Savings?

Like going to Canada, people can save hundreds on prescriptions. For

common medications:

US cost (for local woman) -- $350-400 per month

Canadian cost through the mail -- half of US cost

Cost to receive medications through the mail?

This service is completely free.
