Guest guest
How right you are. There are many people that can take the 2's without a problem, but she is one that is ignoring obvious symptoms. When my blood pressure increased while on Vioxx, I took it seriously and quit taking it even though my doctor poo pood my concern. The one good thing that is coming out of this is that doctors won't be prescribing them as much. Instead of a first resort, they will be a last resort. a On Thu, 3 Mar 2005 07:04:18 -0600, <Matsumura_Clan@...> wrote: > These COX-2 articles make for interesting reading. > > The woman who isn't concerned about Bextra making her ankles swell should > be. > > > > > I'll tell you where to go! > > Mayo Clinic in Rochester > http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester > > s Hopkins Medicine > http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org > > > > [ ] The COX-2 dilemma: Risking heart problems to ease > pain > > > > > > The COX-2 dilemma: Risking heart problems to ease pain > > > > http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2005-03-02-cox-2_x.htm > > > >

Guest guest
Hi a, I remember when I was on Vioxx and my blood pressure shot through the roof, it was you who alerted me to the vioxx/blood pressure thing. Like you my doctors didn't believe me. But I took your advise and the warning and got off of it. I will always be grateful to you for your help. It would have been nice if I could have taken the drug. But we all need to be alert to side effects and make the doctors listen. All drugs are not for everyone. Guest guest
a, If they could accurately identify groups who were the most likely to be adversely affected (which they can't since our ADR reporting system is a woefully inadequate mishmash of ineffective, nearly meaningless repositories), the worry wouldn't be as great. Some people can take them safely, but who? Do we really want to be playing Russian roulette? Trade a heart attack or stroke for a GI bleed? Furthermore, only Vioxx has been demonstrated to have an association with significantly fewer (through not a whopping difference) GI problems. Doctors better wake up and realize that the adverse events listed by the pharmaceutical companies as a result of their trials (which are carefully designed to include patients who are not likely to make the data look bad) are only a starting point. Why your physician wouldn't listen to you, a very well informed patient, and investigate the sudden increase in BP is a mystery. Maybe it's an outrage! I'll stop writing now since my blood pressure is rising as I type. I think as soon as the kids are on their own, I'm going to apply for work at Public Citizen. I'll tell you where to go!
