Guest guest
My name is Jen. I'm new to this group and have been lurking for a week or so. I finally got up enough courage to post. I've had bronciectasis for 17 years. Over the last 9 months my cough had gotten worse and I ignored it. Well finally I had a CT scan and of course I've done more damage. Very bad of me to ignore my lung like that. Anyways, looks like I'll need to have my left lower lobe resected after a month long treatment for pseudomonas. My bronch (in the lower left lobe only) was caused by recurrent infections so the upper lobe is clear as well as my right. By having surgery my pulm doc tells me I will be cured. Anyone out there have a lobectomy lately? What can I expect as far as recovery? Thanks in advance! Jen son
Guest guest
Hi Jen, I had my right middle lobe resected nearly four years ago. Although things are better and I haven't cultured pseudomonas since then, it didn't stop the infections or prevent further lung damage. All in all, though, I am glad that I had it done. I spent four days in the hospital and was off of work for six weeks. I would have liked to have a couple more days in the hospital and two more weeks before going back to work. Never having had surgery before, I didn't realize that when they said to bring loose-fitting clothes to wear home they meant REALLY loose-fitting clothes. The anesthesia makes your body swell up a little bit. If you have specific questions about what to expect or just need a few words of encouragement, let me know. For me, the idea of surgery was very scary. But, I got though it and I know I could do it again if I had to. Barb Hello to all My name is Jen.
