Guest guest
that's exciting, Beb! His infection must be under control too. Is he still so crabby? hopefully he is feeling better. GOOD MORNING Hello everybody. I am still here, just been busy for a few days. My husband Terry's sugar this morning was down to 129. That is a great improvement for him. The blood pressure is also coming down as well. He got his talking glucometer yesterday, so the nurse where he works is going to show him how to use it today. Hope all of you are having a good day. Guest guest
Hi . Terry's foot is much better. He is off antibiotics and now using Cortisone cream. His mood is much much better now. Thanks for asking. Deb GOOD MORNING > > > Hello everybody. I am still here, just been busy for a few days. My > husband Terry's sugar this morning was down to 129. Guest guest
great news Deb! Just remember... pre meal test should be 80 and his 2 hour post meal test should be 120 or less. If you can not get those numbers, cut his carbs back to 30 grams a meal. I initially stated 45 grams per meal but if you can't get his sugars in range, then bump them down to 30 grams per meal. Good luck! regards, GOOD MORNING > > > Hello everybody. I am still here, just been busy for a few days. My > husband Terry's sugar this morning was down to 129. That is a great > improvement for him. Guest guest
Hi . Thanks for the advice. This doctor only has him testing once a day in the morning when he gets up. He rfeels that that is enough just testing once a day. I totally disagree with this, but I'm not the doctor. Of course, since the doctor only told him he has to test once a day, he is not willing to stick his fingers any more during the day. Deb GOOD MORNING > > > > > > Hello everybody. Guest guest
well, each person has to walk their own path of diabetes. I just hope your husband will eventually reconsider since once a day will never help him gain tight control. For example, if his sugar is 80 in the morning, that does not show his pattern through out the day. For example, he may be 140 at lunch, 130 at dinner, 200 at bed, and then back to 80 in the morning. So, running a sugar pattern like that he will certainly have diabetic complications over time. Just as long as he knows this is what could happen and is ok with that. regards, GOOD MORNING > > > > > > > > > Hello everybody. I am still here, just been busy for a few days. Guest guest
Hello, You might try and get your husband to change the time of day when he takes his one test, it might so him the need too do more than one each day. If nothing else it will show him how much his blood sugars can change during the day. Good Luck At 10:18 AM 12/5/03 -0500, you wrote: >well, each person has to walk their own path of diabetes. Guest guest
One thing to pay attention to Deb is his hemoglobin a1c level. Get a hemoglobin a1c level, cratinine, and lipid panel done every three months on him. If his hemoglobin a1c, or a1c for short, is 5.0 to 5.5 then testing once a day is good. If it is higher than 6.0, then he needs to reconsider what his doctor states *smile*. I ran an a1c of 6.8 to 7.4 for 10 to 13 years and lost my eyesight from it. Harry had 2 strokes running an a1c in those ranges in only 4 years. I lost my eyesight at 17, since your husband is older, his body will be effected more quickly by the high blood sugars. If his doctor tells him an a1c of anything higher than 6.0 is good, you have to find another doctor since that doctor is not aggressive enough. Heck, any doctor that diagnosed me as a type 2 diabetic and said test once a day, knowing what i know now, I'd say see ya later but that is just me. Please don't feel that we are bashing you, your husband, etc. we are just concerned and don't agree at all with that doctors advice. It is just not aggressive enough for us on the list. Hope you understand. We are not found of doc pops ont he list I.E the family doctor that says test once a day or once every week I've even heard from family doctors. Endos man, endos, get him to an endo before doc pops kills him *smile*. Regards, GOOD MORNING > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > Hello everybody. I am still here, just been busy for a few days. Guest guest
Hi Bill. Wow! great suggestion. That is one thing to consider Deb. See if he will test like this: * Monday morning * Tuesday Afternoon * Wednesday before dinner * Thursday before bed and so on. Good advice Bill.
