Guest guest
Hi,I am very bored with this Christian thread. Yes, I do know where my delete key is and I will continue to use it. But I just wanted it to go on record that this has nothing whatsoever to do with Jung and people who still go to Sunday School should make up their own minds about what they want.Do I bore you ad nauseam about Jewish Festivals? (We just finished a really important month, btw).fa fa, dear! This thread has EVERYTHING TO DO W/JUNG!!! It was at the heart of his own questiuons as a young man n the question betw his father's lack of understanding inspired Jung all his life to try to give us a new way of looking at the message of "Christ Consc" - if ever there was a topic appropriate to j-f, this is it! Just think of the many bks n lects, he devoted to the subject! As an analyst-to-be, u will surely encounter patients w/these deep existential questions, so just reconsider yr impatience!! The fact that Jung equated salvation w/individuation makes a huge difference to some who are fed up w/the former word! The fact that Jung considered INCARNATION rather than escaping into heaven etc. speaks volumes. The idea of the Self+ Christ w/in - don't be fooled by this limiting it to exoteric Christianity! This is why labels are so divisive n why I call it our Divine Guest, atman, etc. Rather than being so critical n negative, why not share some of the deep symbolic implications of Jewish festivals. That wld also be meaningful. After all Jehoshua was Jewish! n was a bridge betw THE age of Aries/Pisces. What ab the Baal Shem Tov? One of my favorites! The more we here at j-f can pursue this thread, the more profoundly cn we understand the symbolic truths of Christ's teaching n Lord knows, we in this country, need to understand this in face of the literal interprets of the evangelical overtaking of our government!! Please reconsider. As u know I have been a lifelong appreciator of all religions n their union in their mystical traditions........ love ao
Guest guest
Dear Alice, > > fa, dear! This thread has EVERYTHING TO DO W/JUNG!!! It was at the > heart of his own questiuons as a young man n the question betw his father's lack > of understanding inspired Jung all his life to try to give us a new way of > looking at the message of " Christ Consc " - if ever there was a topic > appropriate to j-f, this is it! Agreed. The problem is that on these lists we fall into the trap of concretisation. There has been a lot of talk about Jesus, but the discussion appears to centre around whether or not we " believe " , rather than of the Christ figure as a symbol of the Self. It is just the same with the political threads. A lot of prominent Jungians have written very well about the symbolism of 9/11, but here all we do is argue for or against the conspiracy theory. There was a faction who felt very bitter when Heyward pulled the plug on jung-l and started a new list with restricted membership (some friendships have still not been healed) - but he did it to put an end to these pointless political and religious arguments. So now people seem to have brought them over here instead! > > Rather than being so critical n negative, why not share some of the deep > symbolic implications of Jewish festivals. That wld also be meaningful. Last night was the final night of Succoth, and for the first time in our married life we have a garden of our very own (the garden in the old country house was shared between 4 houses). So, we were able to build a Succah, and last night we invited our neighbours, none of whom are Jewish, to share the festival, which meant explaining everything from scratch. As I explained about the booths symbolising the tents in which we slept for 40 years in the wilderness, and made my usual joke about bwandering in the wilderness for 40 years only to end up in the only part of the Middle East which doesn't have oil, I thought of the implications for the individuation process. Whenever the going gets tough, it is so human to wish ourselves back in Egypt (unconsciousness, de-Nile!)and fancy that we were better off. And the going is arduous, and when we arrive, there is no oil, there is very little water, and backbreaking work ahead to make the land habitable. Nonetheless, our burning desire for the Promised Land spurs us on. I also thought of the symbolic fruits, stuffed vegetables and meats, and apple strudel as an honouring of the older Mother Goddess. love, fa
