Alan , M.D., and his wife Lujene , R.N., have become warriors

against thimerosal and, eg, were instrumental in getting anti-thimerosal

legislation passed in Missouri. What will have been Alan's later years

were put to very good purpose.

Dear Friends,

As some of you already know, my husband, Alan was diagnosed with Stage

IV adenocarcinoma of the lung last Tuesday. Unfortunately, we learned

Friday that it has metastasized to his brain and bones.

Alan and I are people of faith and believe that God is our Savior. We

know through Him, we will have the strength to face the difficult days

ahead. We firmly believe in the power of prayer. We respectfully ask

that everyone say a prayer for him Monday, August 8, 2005 at 9 am

(Central Time) at the start of his chemo. His oncologist is a personal

friend, as well as a colleague, and is attacking Alan's cancer very

aggressively with a combination of three chemotherapy drugs at one

time. He may have to undergo the Gamma Knife or Cyber Knife in the near

future for the cancer found in the brain.

We are fighting this monster with every fiber of our beings and praying

that God, in his Mercy, will help bring Alan through this and restore

his good health. We are going to have to take a short break from the

mercury advocacy while we battle the cancer but vow to return as soon as

he is well again. Until then, know that we hold each of you in our hearts.

P.S. Although it is difficult for Alan to talk due to the cough and

lung congestion, he loves hearing from friends and colleagues. The

cards, notes and e-mails (aclark@...

) have really boosted his spirits.
