So far, I'm experiencing no side effects from Monopril. With the nose

problem and asthma, I was having a coughing problem before. Monopril hasn't

made it any worse.

I took Zestril for a while several years back and had to stop because of

the dry throat and constant cough. My CDE, when I asked her about going

on ACE inhibitors said that all of them would probably have the same

side effects on me. Of course, some people have no side effects.

ooooooooh, I am anxious to see how this works out for you. That is what I am

supposed to be taking too (Prinivil) only mine are 20 mg and she said 10 mg

daily. Sounds like a lot to me.....still dealing with bumpy skin here, so I

am leary about anything new till I am all cleared up.

Thanks Teri, and to everyone else who answered. This is a concern to me

and I hope that I can avoid any side effects like that should I need to

go on that stuff. Guess the overall benefits/cons have to be weighed.

Seems to be working great for !

I was on Accupril years ago and had severe dry throat and coughing (which

was worse upon laying down to sleep)...was changed to Lotensin and have no

problems for the last several years.

!n 1994, I started with 10 mg Prinivil and ended up on 30 mg/day to control

my BP. During the last year, the dosage was reduced back to 10 mg because my

BP dropped too low and I started to experience dizzy spells. As of last

week, I'm on 5 mg/day and everything seems OK. Ace Inhibitors are

" potassium-sparing " drugs and since I'm also on Spirolactone (for PCOS

symptoms), another " potassium-sparing " drug, I periodically get checked to

make sure that my potassium level remains normal.

In 1994, my BP was 180/110. Now it remains around 116/74 except in the Dr's

office! I do monitor once/day at various times and keep records for the Dr.

Exciting news: New HbA1c results 5.2! (normal <6.5)

Judy:

I took the Zestril for several months. The cough and dry throat didn't

let up. Right now I am on Varapamil and Hydrochlorothiazide and am

waiting to see how that does. Thursday, I went to my doctor for a bp

checkup and bp was 130/80 but I still am striving for 120/70 with the

medications. I will check again at a future date with my CDE who is a

physician's assistant. I FAX her my bp readings every two weeks and she

calls me on the telephone. If she feels it would be worthwhile trying a

different one, I will. Certainly have nothing to lose by trying and

lots to gain.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Feeling tired is actually an effect from some of these blood pressure meds.

(You are not yet on them, and you may never have to take large amounts, so

it's likely you won't experience this phenomenon.)

The beta blockers cause your pulse to run slower ... your heart to " loaf. " I

am happy to read that so many of you have bought machines - or are planning

to. Here is an example of the meaninglessness of one isolated blood pressure

read: This morning's reading ... 124/86, pulse 74. The reading just before

that, a few days ago, was 153/119.
