Guest guest Posted February 21, 2005 Report Share Posted February 21, 2005 Hi All...The job is working in the " Communications " department at the hospital 5 minutes from me, where I had my throat surgery in 2002 and my hysterectomy in 2003, where my rheumy's office is, too. Answering calls at the main " switchboard " for all medical departments and patients, (of course it is not a 'switchboard' anymore : ) paging physicians, calling codes, and working with security. It is part-time, but also a good 'foot-in'the-door " for other positions, more hours down the road. I hope to hear something within the next few days. I haven't said a lot about this...most of you know I am in subsidized housing and I have a very sweet little apartment that I like very much, and can afford on disability. There are 8 apartments here...6 are nice folks just trying to get a better life together. 2 apartmens are trouble - one is a drug place/stollen merchandise place. The police have been here MANY times, arrested at least 3 people in the last two months. I have communication with a particular officer as they are really trying to get enough evidence to shut this awfulness down for good. There is a 5 year old sweet and beautiful little girl living in that 'bad' apartment. There has been physical violence with various folks 5 ft. in front of my apartment. The Mom was jailed last summer, but is home now. The officer told me the other night to " ...keep a watch out cause they are a rough bunch. " I do know that, but hearing an officer warn me makes it more disconcerting. My kids and friends want me out of here. I find myself feeling VERY angry...why should I or any other decent person have to move when a bunch of folks are doing illegal and dangerous things? I am all for 'recovery' and God knows we ALL make mistakes, but this isn't " just " a group of drug users and it certainly does not appear that folks are interested in 'recovery'...there are sales, distribution, all manner of bad things going on and continuing. The 2 girls from the apartment next to me (which was NOT a good situation but no where near as awful as the current one) were taken away by the state a few weeks ago. Believe me, I TRY so hard to keep a good attitude, hang on to my faith, pray for folks as they CAN change their lives if they decide to. But, it is really getting difficult to see so much bad stuff go on evry day. I KNOW the police really have to 'dot their i's' and 'cross their t's' so that cases stick and something permanent can happen. I don't mean to sound ungrateful because I am grateful to have a nice place to live with my limited income, but golly, it is stress, drama, and some dangerous garbage going on every day. Whew...guess I needed to get that out! The shenanigans around here are really starting to take an emotional toll. Working part-time would help me do someting where I could both 'test the waters' on my physical ability to work again, help me have even a little more income, and perhaps make it possible for me to move if it comes to that. And more than anything, I really think I NEED to be around folks in an atmsphere of helping others and positivity. The hospital's " Mission Statement " talks about carrying on the ministry of Jesus particularly to those who are the most vulnerable and needy (it is a Catholic health-care organization). That really touches my heart and means so much to me...I have been there, and would feel so good about being able to 'give back.' This really is weighing on me, my friends. I do appreciate more than I can convey my gratitude for your prayers for all involved here, and your loving support. You ALL mean so much to me.... So, they just disconnected it. Well, when they went back the next day, the guy had hooked his cable back up. So, they disconnected it again. This happened about 4 or 5 times. They finally disconnected and then the shift manager called the local police. They said that the next time they notice it hooked up again to just give them a call and they would take care of it.But, they told the cable guys not to disconnect so they would have proof. So, they noticed it and they called the cops. Well, the cops said to meet them there once they got a warrent. They had the entire force!! Well, at least most of them, anyway!! They knocked on the door and no one answered. So they pulled out the battering ram from the trunk of their car and while they knocked the door down, the other cops had their guns pulled in case the guy was home!! Well, they go in and take his illegal cable boxes, his television and a few other items. Then they closed the door and left!! Apparently, they want the guy to come home and see things missing so he thinks he was robbed. Therefore, he will call the cops!! I guess that city takes stolen cable VERY seriously!! Anyway, they had to leave the illegal cable hooked up so the police could get photos for proof. Hopefully they will get what they need for your troublesome neighbors. I agree with what you said about bad neighbors. Why should YOU have to move. The bad eggs should be the ones to leave. I wanted to move from my house (condo)when the last neighbors I had moved in. They were very very poor neighbors who thought the only concern they had was for themselves, no one else mattered. They blasted their surround sound system so loud that I couldn't hear my own TV. They wouldn't clean it up either. I got back at them for that one. I picked up all the dog crap in my back yard, put it in a pastic grocery bag, and then chucked it up and over the privacy fence where it landed (and the bag busted)all over their picknick table!! :-) They would have parties until 3 or 4 in the morning, as well.Once, my brother tuned off their power and disconnected the cable. I don't know what your beliefs are on house blessing, but I would sure bless your apartment and pray in Jesus' name to bind the spirit of violence on your neighborhood. I know it is hard to see little ones being caught in the crossfire of the adults' behavior. Can you get those little door and window alarms they sell at hardware stores? We put dowel rods on our windows, also there is a thing called a new york lock that is a bar thing that goes under your doorknob and braces against a rubber thing on your floor. We live in a small town but had a stalker scare last year against my baby girl. (17 and very pretty.) I know that you are a witness for those people just by your life. I pray for your safety, my heart hurts for you and for those poor little ones. You, of course, remain in my prayers for the hospital job -and if not that- something that will brighten you and use to good advantage your remarkable gifts. I do want to comment on your housing situation.The police are not your only recourse. You should not have to complain to the police- your landlord should be handling that. Criminal activity- drug related in particular- is a major problem and HUD should be targetting that activity in public housing. As a tenant in subsidized housing you have a right to complain to your manager- confidentially- and they need to act on your complaint or risk losing federal and/or state dollars in the management of the complex. Criminal activity is a reason for eviction. It sounds as if there is proof that drugs have been dealt out of those apartments- your manager needs to act on that now for your safety and the safety of the families there. Your local city attorney's office or public housing authority should have some type of complaint forum for these issues. I will look up the various tenants rights HUD sites for you. If you know there are small children in the apartments involved you can also complain confidentially to your local department of Social Services to help protect those babies.
