Kerry,

I was denied twice and the 3rd time I got an attorney. He misrepresented

himself as knowledgable @ social security disability. After the hearing I fired

him and retained a new attorney. According to him, the first lawyer did

EVERYTHING wrong! Amoung other things, he had failed to submit any medical

evidence for over 2 years! To top it off I got a judge who NEVER approves a

claim. The judge misconstrued and misinterpreted the evidence.

I balled like a baby when I read the report. It's so hard when people don't

take our pain seriously.

I would kill to have a husband like yours - be grateful. Your mom sounds like a

case - one of those people who always wants to be the center of attention.

I do a lot of reading - especially out in my lawn chair in the back yard. I try

to cook when the pain isn't too bad. I love my crock pot - I can do the work in

the morning and have a nice meal waiting. My year old Golden Retriever who

loves to take me for walks, even when I don't think I can.

My kids keep me going most of all.

Take care and have a good evening.

Hugs,

Alanna

Thank you for the welcome. It really is amazing how many people don't want to

understand what we are going through - so many think we are faking, trying to

get out of doing things, or using it to get drugs. I remember telling my

wonderful dr - I've never felt a high from any of my meds - I've felt the pain

go away and that is a wonderful feeling. Sure wish it would last longer than

the 3-4 hours! LOL!

Alanna - think it was you who said you were applying for SSDI - they will

disapprove you the first time. Seems like it's automatic! Then they put me

through the mill when I appealed - sent me to several drs to have things checked

out. But it came back very quickly as approved. Once that happened - things

started to roll - and everybody has been very helpful. Now, if this health care

reform goes away, I'll be happy. I have good health insurance and don't want it

changed.

My husband is very supportive - very helpful. He will even bring a meal to bed

for me - if I need it. He's practically taken over all the household duties and

we have cleaning ladies come in every two weeks to help.

I wish I had the support from my mother. She's hard to describe, but does a lot

to get attention. She does a lot of embellishing - as my sister and I call it.

One day she screamed at me - how could my pain be worse than hers - I couldn't

possibly hurt more than her!

Goodness, didn't mean to ramble on again. I promise I won't do that every time

I post! LOL!

What do you all do to keep yourself active and your mind off the pain - if

that's possible?

Need to run for now. Will check back later.

Alanna,

I'm not surprised by the lack of knowledge on what's covered under disability.

I was disapproved and got a lawyer.  Don't think it really did anything but make

them some money.  Most of the time SS called me to get people to send them

information.  I really think it's a racket!

I work on making cards and when I can, some decoupage.  I also have two goldens

- very blonde - Barney, who is 5 and Meggie who will be 4 this Sept.  Both are

quite the characters and I wonder if Meggie will ever grow up.  Barney was quite

ill at 1.5 years - almost lost him - so I always say he missed his childhood!

It took about six months to cure him - he " caught " an auto-immune disease -

Masticatory Myositis.  His jaw froze closed!  He was on massive doses of

steroids for months.  What it is the chewing muscles were affected - so he

literally lost his pretty head and has a very pointed head now.  The muscles

never came back.  I found a web site that had hundreds of people, if not more,

that had dogs with the disease..  Its quite prevalent in goldens, shepherds,

dobermans.  Anyway, my beautiful little golden grew up quickly.

Gosh - I promised I wouldn't ramble on when I posted again!  Ummmm - I really do

have people to talk to during the day - LOL!

Today was a very painful day - seems like nothing was going to help.  So, I try

to keep busy with my cards.

And yes, my husband is a keeper!

Thanks for listening.

Kerry, Barney and Meggie too!
