Guest guest
Hello all...I am doing okay...not great but each day it is getting easier. I read the posts each day but haven't felt much like writing anything down but today I was thinking about the situation with Vioxx... I was put on Vioxx about 4 or 5 years ago. I wasn't sure if it was helping or not so asked my doctor if I could try Celebrex...I took it for about 2 months and knew it wasn't helping so asked if I could go back to Vioxx. Now, my doctor told me that they were about the same - with minor differences but I did seem to get some results with the Vioxx...it relieved some of the swelling and the achiness. I took Vioxx almost religiously for about 2 1/2 years - then I started stuttering...we didn't know why...at I couldn't tell anyone when it started because my short term memory was a goner but all this came on gradually. I couldn't say exactly when. At the time, I was taking flexeril, ultram, vioxx, synthroid, avandia, flotx, and methotrexate plus some others but can't really remember which ones so don't want to list in case I mislead. I was due to have the first surgery on my neck and the doctors told me to stop all the cox-2 inhibitors 2 weeks prior to surgery. Well, my memory was so bad - I didn't know what a -2 inhibitor was so I stopped taking all the drugs except the flotx and the MTX. I quit stuttering about 30 days after my surgery and my short term memory came back. When I think back to those days, I still don't have memory of exactly what went on or what I was doing. I just can't remember but what has interested me now is their taking Vioxx off the market. The military pharmacy back in April of this year stopped filling prescriptions for Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra. I had to change to Mobic for my anti-imflammatory. Now, I never put 2 and 2 together but they decided that Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra weren't medications they wanted on their shelves. Does anyone else wonder what the possible connection is or what they possibly know that isn't being told to the general public? Should the drug companies that make Celebrex and Bextra be taking their product off the market too? I have worried for a long time about these new -2 inhibitors because the long-term testing of these drugs has not been completed. I took Vioxx for probably 2 1/2 years. I have been totally off it for 2 years. I was prescribed bextra about a year ago but I never took it regularly. I only take it when the burning sensation in my hands and left arm gets so bad that I can't stand it. Then I take it for a couple days and then I stop. I have still been taking the Bextra - using up my bottle before I started on the Mobic. I am wondering now if I shouldn't just throw it away and use the Mobic. Just a few thoughts for all to mull over. God bless, Althea
