Hello all, Just had to add my 2 cents. I don't understand why doctor's don't want us to have a very handy tool to help us monitor our disease. If we know what our 02 saturation is and our heart rate, we will be able to be more active and consequently, stay more healthy. Yes, at first you do check it ALL the time. It's a new toy. Then you get familiar with how you feel when your sats are good or they are low. I check mine periodically. At the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, we are trying to get Medicare/caid to see the necessity of this tool. It's like checking glucose for diabetics. Once the government picks it up, then insurance is sure to follow. At this point in time, some doctors will prescribe it and some insurance will pick it up. This will be a process, but hopefully, we'll "get er done". I know in Canada it's not something you can

readily purchase. Our friend Bill had one of his friends in the states purchase one for him and then shipped it to him. Best to all. You are such a wonderful daughter, you really are. My brother is the same way, he's always there for me, along with my hubby. I just got put on insulin myself last week, it will help your dad. Also, I increased my own o2, I went from 2 liters to 3 and I feel better. I see U of MI drs again in Oct so I will tell them then. Just remember Anne, we are here for you, in prayerful support, and in emotional too. God is a mighty God and he hears

our prayers. You and your family are in mine..... Love in Christ, Vicky81856 IPH/PF 4/06••••••••••••• Original Message ••••••••••••• Hi everyone,I just really need to tell someone/everyone how i'm feeling. he went into hospital on friday (emergency)in diabetic crisis with a very high blood glucose and severe dehydration (this was his first diabetic episode ever). since then, he has been released (just yesterday) and both he and my mother are in complete and utter overwhelm--he is now on insulin 2X per day, add to that oxygen 24/7 and cpap in the last 3 months--its just way too much for a 79 year old to cope with. Dad is so weak, gets out of breath so easily now. His

endocrinologist dropped his prednisone down to 30mg from 40mg. I don't know if that's what's doing it or if he's still recovering from the crisis and all of that time laying in a hospital bed. In the meantime my mom is so scared of the insulin, she's anxious and can't sleep. I'm suffering from anxiety and can't sleep very well--I can't be there all the time although part of me wants to be--I feel like I'm letting my husband and baby down with all the time i'm spending there. One of my greatest fears is that dad will have to go into a nursing home. I saw my grandmother in one and it just broke my heart. I'm just having a really hard time keeping it together these last few days, I'm so scared. Please keep us in your prayers--anne (dad ipf 03/06)

Leanne,

RE: pulse oximeters.... It's like checking glucose for diabetics

Exactly!!!

You know, docs get a 'bonus' from some insurance plans for keeping costs low. I hate to think that $$$ may be thier motivation not to prescribe something so useful to us.

, I am soooo glad that you are back! Seems like you were gone 6 months! Welcome girlie! So glad you had fun. Was it cold up there yet? I haven't seen an itemized list of what my doctor charges the insurance company but he ALWAYS makes sure he checks my O2 level at the end of the visit. Now I am suspicious! I had a great time in South Dakota and miss my grandkids already. I have 450 posts to catch up on! We are such a busy group. Unreal. What is that ....???..2 seconds, tops. Great money! Suspicious, Joyce > Vicky, I was just wondering, are you on 02 all the time?
